garage gallery suggestion

while I realize no garage is ever "done". would it be possible to have two sections to the gallery? one for "in progress" and one for "completed construction"?

just an idea that is similar to another forum I frequent

I think there should be a gallery of pictures only. Absolutely no comments whatsoever. Can go through many pages now where you'll see only a couple pics and then two or three more pages of people quoting those same pics just to say that "it looks good" or something. I just want to see pics.
Then the poster of the pics can link to another thread so people can discuss details.

Just annoying now when you go to a gallery expecting to find a bunch of pics, instead to find a bunch of posts commenting on a couple pics.

Or at least put a sticky in the gallery where you aren't allowed to "quote pics"......talk about a waste of bandwidth....I tire of looking at threads where the same set of pics is repeated and repeated and repeated....lol

yep and the same set of pics is repeated and repeated with the same generic comments like "looks good" or "nice garage". You don't need to quote a bunch of pics just to tell someone that.

Why do they need to reply at all?? If it's a pics gallery, why does anyone feel the need to commnet. Especialy the generic comments i listed above??

If it's a picture gallery, post the pics and leave it at that.

Maybe it could be set up like a simple poll? Like, don't like, meh?

Id like the same thing in the classified forum. that way you dont have to read through 15 posts of sold, still available. sold, still available. sold!

one thread that only the seller posts in. one for discussion.

Forgive me for thinking that a gallery should have lots of pictures and fewer comments, instead of vice-versa. I think it makes sense to have a gallery where one can go and fly through a bunch of different pics for ideas and inspiration. Not a "gallery" where one can go to read pretty much the same comments over and over while looking at the same quoted pics over and over.

It was just a suggestion in the suggestion forum.

Not trying to reinvent the wheel. Just trying to put a little rubber on the wooden one you use.

Even the wheel has been improved since the day it was invented.

In any event, whats the problem with my idea?? Do you like looking at a "gallery" just to find the same pics quoted over and over again?? Do you like sifting through a bunch of comments like "cool shop" or I like your cabinets" over and over again?? Whats the point?

Most of the original posters of those pictures are putting them there LOOKING for comments from other members.Sometimes its just looking for approval of what they've done,sometimes its looking for constructive criticism.I know quoting huge amounts of pics is annoying but most of the time the person doing it either doesn't know how to quote without them or is referencing something in a specific pic.One bennefit comes when a poster goes in and changes and removes pics from the thread.If the content has been quoted it stays in the quote even if the original is gone.This makes some of the very old threads on the board still readable even though things are missing.

But I can't speak for why everyone comes to this forum. I doubt anybody can do that. I'm sure a different reason for everyone.

But I know that I originaly went to the gallery thread hoping to see a bunch of pics and get some inspiration for my own garage project.

And I'm sure you found thousands of pics there.Hopefully they inspired you in some way.Many other members come here to look at those pictures as well.Many of them also come here to talk with people about what they see in those pictures and comment on them,compliment the posters,critique them and express their envy at times.Dealing with the comments is the price you pay here for looking at the pictures.I think it's pretty cheap myself considering what you get.Many people won't want to comment in a seperate thread.It just seems weird."Hey what kind of screwdriver was that behind the blue thing on the bench in the 11th pic of your gallery?"Then everybody ends up going back to the gallery to see what the guy is talking about.Easier to just quote the pic and ask the question.Then everybody sees what he's talking about.Saves clicking back and forth between threads.JMO but I'm heading to bed,work in 6 hrs.
