What do you guys think of a The Smith & Wesson Governor Revolver using .410 shells, I like the idea myself.

Ruger GP100 Loaded with .357 close by,
Remington 870 on top shelf,
AK-47 behind door,
Glock 29SF hidden in car parked in garage,
Ruger LCP in my pocket(just enough to get me to one of my real guns :)

And I live in a decent neighborhood!! LOL Maybe it's because of people like me that it stays that way!! Nothing will stop me from protecting my wife and 4 kids!

I have a pretty reliable grease gun that I keep out there.

This kind of Grease Gun? I'm not going anywhere near your garage

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3_submachine_gun

The M3 was an American .45-caliber submachine gun adopted for U.S. Army service on 12 December 1942, as the United States Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M3. The M3 was designed as a more cost-effective alternative to the Thompson, optimized for mass production. The M3 was commonly referred to as the "Grease Gun" or simply "the Greaser", owing to its visual similarity to the mechanic's tool.

Ok, which majority?:eyecrazy:

Keeks said ... "We are very lucky in Canada that generally speaking this gun culture is very rare indeed. "
You ... "wondered if Keeks spoke for the majority....."

I said ... "Yes" ... meaning I agree with him.

I speak from an urban perspective where the percentage of persons owning a gun is relatively small. In rural, northern, remote, etc. areas it is larger. Overall about 25% of Canadian households own one or more guns. In the US it's about 50%.

I think you'll find a difference of opinion between the prairies and eastern Canada too. I'm out west and I'm inclined to think that there is a higher percentage of gun ownership here than out east. That being said, I'm licensed to own but I don't own any.

I agree, there are big regional differences. In the Yukon and Northwest Territories about 65% of all households own a gun while in Ontario it's only about 15%. In the Atlantic provinces it's about 35%. That doesn't surprise me as people's reasons for owning a gun differ from region to region. I have nothing to back this up but I'm sure that hunting for example is more prevelant in the north and east than it is where I live. Ontario with a relatively small number may have a higher "problem" but I don't know that if that's the case. I'm not anti gun, I would just like to know they are used by responsible people for the right reasons.

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot one of those, but I did shoot a Bond Arms derringer that took 45 long colt and 4:10 shot shells. I shot the 4:10 in it....not wanting to try that again!

Seems like everyone is armed to the teeth, but how many of you have actually fired your gun at someone that was inside of your home or garage?

If any most will never reply. They seem to be a very very private group. I hope none of used have to be a member of. Even veterans very few talk about there encounter.

I personnel think the story should be told in order for others to learn from it. I would like to thank the people that do share.

There is a big regional difference in the US for gun ownership. In the rural mountains aof Western North Carolina where I live, about 85% own guns. It is not uncommon to see P/U trucks with gun racks (and usually dog boxes) at Walmart etc. Hunting is a way of life here. I might add that the county where live has a very low crime rate even though there are usually only (3) Deputies and a Sgt. on duty for the entire county at any given time. YMMV.

I don't think you would like to practice with it. That will beat the #$@! out of you and expensive to shoot.

If you wont to be beat up then go for a Surbu Super Shorty in 410. Use light loads to test it out. NFA rules apply.

I didn't read the entire thread but what I did read and the fact I am right now doing research on a new gun purchase I thought I'd share a little info.
If you live somewhere where snakes and small animals are a problem (likely the snakes are hunting the small animals) then a .22 LR or .22 MAG pistol is what you need. But, if you live in an urban environment where the reason you feel the need for a gun is a high crime rate and violent criminals...a .22 and a shotgun are not your best choices. A shotgun is too easily sitting on the other side of the garage when trouble comes at you!
You want a firearm that gives you stopping power. You can put several .22's into someone and they will still not be wounded enough to keep from hurting you pretty badly.
Personally, I like the good old American .45. It was designed to stop marauding hoards of enemies who kept coming...when the .45 hit them...it stopped them!
Two things...NEVER pull or display a firearm unless you fully intend to use it and are prepared to kill! If you can't bring yourself to pull the trigger chances are pretty good it will be taken from you and used on you.
Just having a gun is not enough...You must know how to use it and be proficient in shooting it. It's a tragedy how many people get shot because the shooter had no idea how his gun worked or how to hit his target! Get good training!
Finally...make sure you know your local laws and comply with them!

I keep both my safes in my garage...each with 25-30 HKs and a variety of AR15s. Since I do a lot of gunsmithing type work, it makes sense for me. I live in a fairly conservative town with very little crime so I'm not terribly worried about people breaking into my garage and loading up my 1000lbs safes. My neighbor is a helicopter pilot in the Navy and he understands my love for all things Heckler & Koch. If he saw someone with a moving truck backed up to my house....he'd have my back.

I live in a relatively crime free area, but since the fires myself and one neighbor(about 1/2 mile away) are the only ones left so it is better to be safe. I've got two Great Danes(150 Lb+ each) that if I'm in the garage they are laying in the front yard. If anyone stops or wants to talk to me they stand in the road and yell or honk their horn, but if they made it to the garage I've got a Remington 870 stashed within arms reach.

I have a 12 guage with alternating buck shot and deer slugs in the magazine. That way if I am forced to use it, I spray them with the buck shot, and once they turn to run I plug them in the back with the slug

Shooting someone in the back is just asking for prison time as far as the law is concerned. Someone running away from you is not considered a threat. Justify it all you want but it won't help you.

it depends....

tactical pump shotgun? yes, always.
Beretta SP OU? yes - during dove season.
.40 Walther? yes, whenever I'm present, the Walther is usually present.
.45 Springfield? yes, if my truck is parked in the barn.
22-250? only during coyote season. (year round)

It's not about waving anything around. It's just the way I live.

I like to eat dove, so I keep a couple of shotguns handy.
I hate coyotes, so I keep a ranch cleaner at the ready.
I hog hunt and kill rattlesnakes on sight, so I usually have a handgun in my truck. Nothing worse than needing to kill a hog and having to use a phillips screwdriver (true story, but not me :) My good friend works at the prison, so he can't have a weapon in his truck - he came home and grabbed the dogs and forgot to grab a knife or a gun. The dogs bayed a big hog and he had to do what he could.)

And I don't tolerate trespassers, so once the dogs are done putting holes in them.....:)

I've had to draw a weapon twice on another human being. Once, I could have pulled the trigger as he had a knife, but instead chose to use the barrel to jab him in the face instead. Second time, as soon as I cleared the gun from my front pocket, the threat disappeared down the street.

Hi Point .45 when I am out there. I have so far killed two rabid foxes and a rabid woodchuck of all things. 30 yard shot on the chuck, center mass. He was tryin to kill my chickens.
I have 15 acres, good neighbors, and a 500 foot long driveway. I am always prepared nonetheless.

Fun thread. I've had my CCW since turning 21. Only an HK40compact and a ruger40 but both are loaded and ready to go. I am struggling though as I have two daughters and they (and friends) are old enough to pull a trigger so the balance between "guns at ready" and "responsible parent" is being tested.

I don't have a garage, just a workshop in my apartment/condo. I'm prepared, nevertheless.
There is an apartment building full of gangsters and lowlifes next door to me. I'm practiced and we have a plan in case someone breaks in. I doubt they would stay long with our incredibly (((loud))) alarm system :willy_nil but you never know.

I always have my 410 in the garage with me while I'm tinkering out there. I live in a nice area but last year my neighbors on both sides of me were burglarized, I think my 130 pound hairy beast deterred the thieves from my place. Well one night about a week after my neighbors house was broken into my dad was out of town for work, it was just my mom my 16 year old brother and I. About 2 in the morning I hear someone pull in my driveway and don't recognize the car so I wake up my brother and told him to grab his gun and just look out the window for me, he stayed inside with his 20 gauge pump loaded and I walked out with my 12 gauge loaded and safety off fully prepared to blast this guy to protect myself and my family. I motioned for him to roll down his window and asked him what his buisness was he said he wanted to smoke a ciggarette and his girlfriend wont let him at home, he was pretty scared with good reason. I told him to get the hell outta my neighborhood and when I walked inside I called the PD.
That was the only scenario I've had like that, I hope it stays that way cause I was just as he was. I don't wanna shoot anyone but if it was me or them I'd be sure I walked away

Nothing would benefit your family more than proper training for them all. Teach them to respect guns and you can combine the "guns at ready" with "responsible parent". Win Win.

I agree with this. If more people knew about guns, the less anti-gun nuts we would have in my opinion

Think it would be too much if I keep my newest one in the garage when I'm out there?

Just to clarify, that particular one is almost a safe queen. Lol. I just got the tax stamp back on it and just like showing it off. I really wouldn't have it out there. I do usually have some form of pistol on me though.
