Think it would be too much if I keep my newest one in the garage when I'm out there?

Just to clarify, that particular one is almost a safe queen. Lol. I just got the tax stamp back on it and just like showing it off. I really wouldn't have it out there. I do usually have some form of pistol on me though.

NICE   What upper, cal and can do you have on that?

It's almost a complete Spikes Tactical gun. Upper, lower, rail, mag block and bolt are all Spikes.

Tros 3 lug barrel

Magpul sights and furniture.

Cheap red dot and magnifier for now.

SWR Trident can

Not sure yet to be honest. I just got the stamp and was able to put it together this week. I had ran out of subsonic awhile back so I have only shot it with some 115gr so far. When the bannick hit it was hard to find and pricey. I picked up some subsonic today though and I'm ready to see what it will do. It was dark by the time I got home though. :(

Ill join in with the HK love. Always have a USP .45 in my personal drawer in my box at work. If I'm out towing in a shady area ill take my ccw usp .40 compact. In my office I have an 870 and an ak. At home I always have my compact on my. I have unfortunately had to draw my weapon on a few occasions.

I keep a loaded 410 semi SG in shop mostly for those damn woodpeckers that go for my T1-11 siding on house and garage. Also have a 1911 45 under bench in quick draw mount. In house is my Mossberg 500 with 8 rounds of 00 and slugs and a XDM full of hollow points.

I have lots of weapons in my garage. Not a gun though. I don't run around killing things that inconvenience me because they really don't. Better for me to be one with nature rather than interfere. We get some nasty creatures here but they never bother me; I just catch and release them mostly. I just leave the crickets alone because they eat roach (water bugs here) larvae. Don't even need to spray anymore. Them's my buds.

Side note: I don't know about this whole being armed all time thing. Living in fear seems like something that will actually kill you quicker because of the stress. If you're religious (any religion, I suppose) and adhere to your religion then death should not be something to fear regardless of how it comes. Take offense if you feel the need but I meant no offense.

Probably should have mentioned that I own the shop. The ones in the office are locked in a safe. Many times, especially during the summer, me and my guys will go up to the range after work. Nice after work activity for us all to blow off some steam, lets face it auto repair can be irritating as hell at times. I used to bring them back and forth, them just left them there. The reason for my usp is that I have been robbed before at another location we had. Late at night fixing a computer at the front counter, young kid comes in holds a gun to me demanding money. I realized that his "gun" was an airsoft gun, flocks don't have 6mm barrels. I drew my pistol, and he kind of froze in his tracks. I calmly stated that if he or his friends ever returned I wouldn't be so nice and escorted him out.

Here in germany we have extremely strict gun laws because our government wants as few guns as possible in the hands of our people. But if you managed to make it through a lot of paperwork, police check, check by a psycho doctor, gun classes and a lot of other drama you are finally allowed to carry a gun (of course on your property only and pleeeease never ever use it).
Living in a small town we seldomn had problems with burglars but in the last years it has changed. They now broke into my house the 7th time and at least 2 times of it it was a person of the direct neighbourhood. They can watch behind the curtain when you come and leave and they can see your daily routine. So they simply wait till you are not at home.
In the last time we also have some mafia like organised eastern block gangs, they send their wifes and children to check out everything, they enter your property and tell you that they are looking for their dog or other bla bla to get a better picture of you and other security aspects.

So at least here in my town 99% of the robbers observe you and your property very professional several days before they break into your house.

Everybody i know seems to be disappointed with our police. The first time when i called them it seemed to me that the 2 guys from police were completely pissed off that they even had to come, one made a fonecall in front of me, he called his mother and said that he can not come in time to get his meal because he has work to do. The second time i had to tell the cops not to walk through the footprints of the burglar on the soil in my garden. Then i had to show them where to look for possible fingerprints. Make an educated guess if they were successful with their work.
From this time on I did not call police again because i personally think that it is a complete waste of time. I now oftentimes carry my glock 19 well visible in a holster on my property so that everybody can see it. When i work in my garage I have to have my garage door open and everybody can see from the street directly into my garage. So i oftentimes lean my M4 carbine (semi auto) with 30 rd mag or my Mossberg 590 12ga Shotgun against my car that everybody who has a close look can see it. This behaviour is absolutely uncommon here in germany but being completely left alone when it comes to my safety i do not know anything else what i could do. The whole neighbourhood is not amused about my politically uncorrect behaviour but from that time on no one did break into my house again.

Very similar to the UK tbh. All I have in my garage is a length of scaffold pipe and a big crowbar. My wife has a colleague in Denmark who's house has recently been flooded along with the rest of his road, most of the houses have now been targeted by gangs of looters from Eastern Europe. He's having to live in a camper van on his drive with his very large dog to stop it happening to his house.

Usually one of these is on me all the time. Nothing big or aggressive, all they do is buy me time to get to the real ones. Don't underestimate the little black widow… she has surprising accuracy and a 22mag bite.

You could point out to them that at least the neighbors close to you are safer because of your behaviour.

Will it cycle heavy subsonics reliably?

Hey I finally got around to shooting it with some subsonic ammo. Functioned flawlessly for the 50 or so rounds we shot!

Used 147gr Winchester target ammo. Love it so far! Took some video I might upload later of it if your interested.

Don't have any. Don't need one. I never heard any stories where people get rob while working in the garage. Sure you guys don't need AA gun or SAM to shoot the drone from NSA?

A buddy of mine was welding w/ his helmet on one night in his garage and someone walked in and put a gun to his head and asked for cash. He gave him some and lucky for him the guy left.

From that point forward, he is armed at all times and on much higher alert.

I have a CHL and carry a Glock everywhere I'm allowed including when I'm home. If I'm sitting on the coach it's with me. When I'm working under cars or something it's hidden close by.

I have a small pocket pistol I keep with me out in the garage. A .25 just to keep the varmits away. But with all of the stuff that goes on anymore, I'm going to pick up a 9mm. The worst scare I ever had was about 1:00 am out in the garage. It was summer and I had the door open. I had my back to the door, and this dipshit from down the road walked into the garage and wanted to see what car I had on the rotisserie. The thing is, I remembered him, but he didn't know who I was. I beat his *** about 30 years ago when he was up the street from my parents and challenged me to meet him in the middle of the street.

If I had the gun with me out in the garage that night, I would have promptly pulled it on him.

This is to all of those who sit here and talk about their perfect lives and giggle at us saying..."Hmmm...I never saw a need for a gun in a garage...dont know why you would EVER need one???"

My Dad said it best..."It is Best the have one and NEVER need it then to NOT have one and need it."

I hope I never need mine...but I rest well knowing that if I need to defend my wife and kids its with in a arms reach. I dont ever want to see my wife of sons in a situation where things go to hell and I am wishing I had something to defent them. I could not live with myself if something happened to them and I was not able to do something about it.

Not everybody lives in perfect little neighborhoods...and a gun just keeps the playing field even and keeps people honest...

That's too funny. I think my wife would kill me if I decided to use our rather expensive stainless steel outdoor grill as trap for .22 target practice.

That was a POS Duane made by Weber. Weber only made that model to sell at Home Depots for a year or so. It never cooked well and getting parts for it was difficult.

Being a backstop is all it was ever good for. Now we have a Weber.

Hopefully this isn't stepping over the line about gun ownership, but to go along with what Bosty is saying....it's not an ego thing, or it's not an internet tough guy thing, and it's not a "I'll shoot any M'Fer that steps foot on my property, but it is a protecting your life and your families life things. And a good case in point is 22Rifles thread about his Fireman best friend that came home and walked in on some thieves and got shot in the back of the head and lost his life a week or so ago.

And no matter what size of town you live in, or how many neighbors you have, it can happen at any time of the day, and any place in the U.S.

Even our Podunk little town has had it's fair share of gunfire, and we are just a little tiny town, that really could be in anywhere U.S.A. Just a few years ago, the neighbor behind us was having a party, and some uninvited guest showed up. They were politely asked to leave. One pulled a knife and stabbed one person, and another pulled a gun and shot two people although it was non life threatening injuries. So you never know when or where something can go wrong.

I live in one of these "perfectlittle neighborhoods" and decided to start keeping a gun in the shop after a pair of steak sellers came knocking.

I was working in the shop one day and one of the guys just came waltzing into my shop unannounced. Once I got him back into the driveway, I was having a pretty good time getting them to ease on down the road.

I keep a 9mm on my side at most times, but have upgraded to a 12ga in the shop just for these types..

Still hasn't crossed my mind. I don't need a gun because most people in Canada don't have 'em. I guess if most people had one, I'd suddenly feel a need for one. Sort of a self fulfilling prophecy.....

It's odd that you say that as they may have problems with those type all over. This last summer they ran an ad in the newspaper about being on the lookout for a couple going around and doing that. Evidently a few houses had been broken into by that particular couple.

I know that when they stopped here two summers ago, I was in the garage and the cell phone rang. It was the wife calling from the house. A couple that were selling the "steaks" would not leave, so she called me. When I went up to the house the front porch was completely covered with wrapped packages of meat, and they were persistent on showing her what they were selling. I told them that the wife said she wasn't interested, and if they wanted any goods to show anyone else, they had 5 minutes to get the hell off of the property. Then I told the wife to call the police because we had a sign up about "no solicitors". I never saw two people move faster in my life.

And yes, I did call the police and told them the license number and make of the truck, and that the wife told them a few times to leave, but they wouldn't. :lol_hitti We didn't file any charges, but the police were going to keep an eye out for them.

I think that is a great idea. No matter what room there can be some type of way or weapon inside to protect yourself in each room especially if you are not home.

I just hope people are not so pessimistic about crime or home invasions because I feel as if crime has gotten lesser compared to the 80's and the 90's. I honestly think the news exaggerates how bad crime really is. I know that is besides the point of this thread, but it is one of the thoughts that comes to mind when many people are talking about defending their home and garages. By all means do what you must to any intruder, it is natural instinct to protect your family just like the animals in the wild do.

And a good case in point is 22Rifles thread about his Fireman best friend that came home and walked in on some thieves and got shot in the back of the head and lost his life a week or so ago.

These types of violent crimes are tragic and make me sick to my stomach  - I can't help but wonder if the outcome would have been different if that young firefighter with a wife, child and a full life ahead of him had the proper training and made the decision to carry.

And no matter what size of town you live in, or how many neighbors you have, it can happen at any time of the day, and any place in the U.S. ...you never know when or where something can go wrong.

I am lucky enough to live in one of those idyllic places out in the country where I have never felt threatened, but I have to agree with Kevin's statement above and am in the process of getting the proper training so that my wife and I can modify our habits accordingly.

Like many others here, I have never felt the need to keep a gun in the shop for self-defense. Unfortunately our society is changing and is facing some significant issues - one of which is that far to many people today have no respect for anything, most significantly life itself (refer back to the tragic story of the firefighter). With age comes a desire to keep the playing field level after the youthful sense of invincibility has faded.

How you level the playing field is a personal decision, the primary method discussed in this thread requires proper training and incredibly high level of responsibility which should not be taken lightly.

I wonder whether (primarily based on the Tueller Drill) most people would be better off with an "edge weapon" of some type for self-defense as it is highly effective and requires far less training than a firearm. :headscrat

Just a couple thoughts to ponder,

GD

I have a 12 guage with alternating buck shot and deer slugs in the magazine. That way if I am forced to use it, I spray them with the buck shot, and once they turn to run I plug them in the back with the slug

This is just plain screwed up for a variety of reasons.

Ever hear the expression "don't bring a knife to a gun fight?"

It takes more skill to defend one's self with a blade than it does with a gun, not to mention, strength, speed, and agility. A weaker victim could be easily overcome and a knife turned against themselves easier than a gun. Unless you are Steven Segal or Jason Stanthom, or well trained in a very tight situation, the average person is much better off taking the point and click method of a 12 gauge or handgun for home/shop defense.

Add me to the list of those who do not keep a firearm in the garage.
All I have within reach is a hot cup of coffee and a framing hammer.

At the old house, I had an old milsurp .380 pistol either in a holster or in a drawer of my toolbox. Here, not so much.
Gated property, tucked back off the street, no crime other then a stolen car stereo in the 40 years my in laws have lived in the neighborhood.
Perhaps I have been lulled into a false sense of security by the new surroundings, I dunno. Just don't feel the need anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I like guns, I own guns, lots of guns of all types, including the politically incorrect ones (ARs/AKs). I am also an ardent supporter of the 2A, NRA member etc.
