Garage Heat pump

My installer is insistent that the best place to install the indoor unit of a ductless heat heat pump is the adjacent wall near my garage door so that the unit forms an air curtain by blowing across in front of the doors.
He states that this is the most efficient operation of the unit. Unit being installed is a 12000 btu Fujitsu in a garage space 20 x 21.
I’ve would have never have thought of locating it in that spot.
Anyone else have an opinion on this

Makes sense from one perspective. The doors are most leaky so the majority of the leaking air, as well as the circulating air are from the unit.

If you go the other way and put it in the back, you will have the greatest gradient of temp across the room.

May not be best for efficiency, but that is a different issue.

I put mine close to where I work in the shop. Much more important to me that how it feels near the door. I’m sure there are better scientific reasons to place it in particular locations but it’s my workshop so my choice.

I’m switching from a in wall heater to a heat pump so I’ve gained my efficiency all ready. I’d rather mount it further up away from my leaky doors for the reason also that I use my garage space for auto detailing and I’m not so sure i won’t end up with more dust in my space when my heat pump is acting as an air curtain across my garage doors…I haven’t signed to proceed yet with the installation as im still a bit nervous about the reliability of heat pumps in general since they are new to me. I can still buy a lot of kilo watts of power for the estimated pay back time for the installation of a heat pump..payback or break even I figured to be 10 yrs giver take. And lol that the reliability an efficiency of the heat pump is still there at that time. Yah the bonus is having a/c when it’s hot..However my thoughts are also that the products we purchase these days are manufactured to last for a given time period so that we can go an purchase a new product. So it’s still a hard decision to make because I don’t know if it’s going to create more dust in the air by placing it near the garage doors and the increased complexity of a duct less over a in wall heater is worth it.
Thanks for listening 😀

Thats where I have my wall mounted electric heater mainly because the electric panel is there and it was easy to put an outlet there. To be honest with you in that small of a garage it probably wont make any difference at all where you put it. My garage is just about the same size and the heat gets circulated just fine.

By the way the best investment I made was replacing my old leaky wood door with a new sealed up metal one. You dont say where you are located but that might save you more money than going with the mini split.
