I recently purchased a reznor udap heater, its in place on the ceiling and im trying to figure out best way to get power to it. The garage is a finished ceiling and i have 12-2 romex run from a 20amp circuit in the attic space above the drywall waiting to be used. Id like a service switch near the heater, i'm just not sure how to accomplish this. Do i run EMT from the heater to a surface mounted metal box? I'm not sure that can even be done.

Any help or suggestions from others that have done this with a finished ceiling would be appreciated.

my original thought was to just put a old work plastic box in the ceiling and run some kind of cord with a plug to the outlet, and consider that my service disconnect, not as clean as i wanted it so thats why im looking for more of a hard wired approach instead. I also have about 5 feet of 1/2" liquid tight flex left over from a steamer unit i wired, but again i think id need a metal surface mounted box and im not sure how to do that on top of drywall.

Mount a 2x4 handy box on the unit for the switch and drop the wire through a hole in the ceiling to it, sleeve it with green field, the liquid tite you have or EMT. You will need a fitting or bushing on the end of the flex/conduit above the ceiling as well to prevent damage to the wire.

I would mount the box for the disconnect directly over the knockout of the unit heater.Use a 4x4 or 2x4 box ,and run an armoured cable flex up through a perfectly sized hole in the drywall. No box is required at the ceiling.
