I am wanting to install a natural gas unit heater in my garage. The garage is 640 sq feet, with an 8 foot ceiling. I want to use the space as a car garage as well as a wood working shop. Am wondering about a good brand and best size of furnace. Also am wondering about clearances needed.
Thks.

Do you have a Menards in your area? Are you a DIY'er? Total project on mine was under $700.

They also have a 45k btu. However for $50 more I'd go with the 75k. Mounts to the ceiling, up and out of the way

If you're using it while woodworking you'll want a separated combustion unit. 30-45k Reznor UDAS would probably be a good fit.

for 680 sq ft a 75k is probably way too big. louder, short cycling, and having trouble heating up the objects in the room will be symptoms of a system that's oversized. $50 to go bigger might mean $100s of headaches. I've helped out with two installs in bigger garages where a 60k is borderline too big.

We didn’t ask all the questions.... is the garage insulated? If yes, how or how well is it insulated? Is it an attached or detached garage?
A well insulated garage of that size could probably do fine with less than 30k btu.
UNinsulated, and maybe with loose doors and big air leaks might need 100k.

EDIT: WHERE is the other big one. Are you in Duluth or Dublin or Darwin or Dubai?
Come on, man, we need info...and we like pictures a lot, as well!

I have an attached 3 car garage. Ceiling is insulated and of course the shared wall with the house is too. The exposed wall isn't and the 45K keeps it nice. Just need a ceiling fan and maybe a small oscillating one to move the air around to lessen cold spots...
