Hi all;
Below are two schematics of my proposed garage. I'm trying to figure out
electrical, and thus where to place the electric garage heaters (e.g.,
Farenheat 6000W). The plan is for 2 heaters. It may seem that they should
be placed in corners 1 and 5, or 3 and 7 (my best choice), but given use of
the garage, perhaps other locations are better. The side elevation shows the
approximate height of the heater versus the ceiling height.

The garage has 2 car bays and one workshop bay. When the cars are pulled
out there is a baskeball court. Note the high ceilings. Electric infrared heaters
are not out of the question, but for now, using standard electric resistance
heaters with fans, what would your advice be? Note that the heaters may be
turned on only for 1 or 2 nights a week during the winter (upstate NY --
cold) for working on projects (cars in garage) or playing basketball (cars
removed).

Corner 1 is probably out because the E350 van would block the airflow. Same
with location 2. Locations 3 and 7 look best, but perhaps three smaller units
at 3, 5, and 7 would be better. If working in the workship area, perhaps a
heater in corner 7 would blow too much dust?

Thoughts?

3 and 5. Unanimous. I like that. Why? Best overall coverage or best coverage of
the most-used spots? I've never used this type of heater, so I've no
idea how they throw heat.

I'd do 1 & 7 *IF* the heater at 1 could be mounted higher.

And as you probably know, since these heaters heat up the 'air', it's going to take awhile before they can bring your shop up to a known temp. A central ceiling fan wouldn't hurt either to help prevent stratification with all your hot up up in that vaulted area.

I wouldn't do 7 because you won't want all that heat at your head when sitting at your workbench. I had my 5kw heater too close to my workbench, and had to move it further away because it was uncomfortable.
