Hi all,

I am Anna from Springfield, MA .I would like to install a heater in my garage but have absolutely no ideas about the type, the cost or the best brands.
I guess it would not have to be that big as my garage is 28´x24´.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

I would think your first consideration would be to determine what resources you have at your disposal. For example, my preference in an existing garage would be to go with a gas fired forced air unit, a shop heater that hangs from the ceiling. But if you don't have a Nat. gas line going into your garage that could be problamatic. Unless you want to go with propane. If your codes would allow a propane tank. Or even heating oil is still used in some parts of the country.
Some type of electrical heat is next, but again if you don't have a large enough electrical service going to your garage, you will have to upgrade. Not inexpensive to operate either.
I guess bottom line is to determine what energy source that is the closest and most practical for your application, taking into consideration not just the cost to install but also to operate over the years.

You can get nice wall mounted heaters that run off of electricity from a menards/HD/Lowes, which should be big enough to heat that area, again, make sure you have the power to run it though.

Hi again,
Thanks all for your replies.
The garage door is 16 x 7 and the walls are about 8 high .No insulation.
The heater would only be used when somebody would be in there, not continuously.
I would rather have an electric one as we do have the power to run it.

especially if not insulated, i wouldn't go for any lower end electric heat. i had a couple in my basement (cadet brand from home depot). they had a fan in them, and 2 of them really heated up my basement well (raising it from say 50 degrees to 65/70 degrees). however, i only used them a few times, and could really, really tell when i used them by looking at my electric bill. the heaters will be cheap, but you'll spend a ton of money a month in electric bills.

If you can run a gas line here's one I have in my 26' x 30' and it does a nice job, the gas bill hasn't jumped either. I have insulation 3 1/2" walls and ceiling.

Bid Maxx and HeatStar are the same units

Some photos of the heater before I finished the garage interior and some after the insulation and finishing.

The first thing I'd do is get some insulation in the ceiling and walls. After that, look for a heater. You will save the cost of the insulation pretty fast.
