HI!! we sold our lakehome and brought home our (my) '57 Chevy, so the garage is really full of cars! and when I want to work on "A" car, I have to do the car shuffle! We have 6 cars, one is up for sale, but it hasn't sold yet, but even with 5 cars is maddeing!
I either want a super nice gable type carport(has to meet code and fit it like it was always there), or extend the original garage forwardly making a really deep garage, or come off of the house with 'something'?
Any ideas welcome! I'm just daydreaming about the idea! If GAry can buy a new car, I can have a nice garage to shelter it and all the other cars!

Time to build onto the garage perhaps. It in in the cards for you to extend the car out into the driveway further. Or perhaps get one of those temporary garages to store one of your classics in for awhile?

I see the Mustang, I'm in now. Move into the garage and convert the house. Looks like you have some room - any on the back side?

From the picture it looks like the side of the garage lines up with the side of the house so I say extend the garage out enough to tie into the house . Then you could park the daily's in front and not have to go out into the weather to get into a car or work on one :D.

I spoke with Gary last night about the idea I have, but he's leaning more towards coming off the existing garage with a gable roof; more like carport, not a garage. But I would like the "carport" to be hollowed out so I can raise a car higher on my Maxjax. I don't know if this can be done or not regarding the inside of the "carport"(there's another name for it, but escapes me)! So we'd be contacting a builder and sketch out a plan, submit it to our subdivision for an OK. PLus new concrete of course! There's a home in our neighborhood like I'm thinking and I'll take a photo of it and post. I was actually dreaming of a large attached garage with a 4post lift, but Gary kind of shot that idea down :(

This a a neighbors home around the corner. I like this design if it could be incorporated into our existing garage. It wouldn't be as wide as this, but would stil cover our newer cars and I could keep the classics in the garage, but I still want to be able to take cars higher on my my Maxjax~ just have to ask the contractor(if that day ever happens!) if it could have a higher inside ceiling(at least in the center of it).

You would probably be better off talking to an architect rather than the contractor. We've done a total of four additions to our house over the last 25 or so years. The first two were just average bump out affairs,so they came out well with just our and the contractors designs. The third was adding a full second floor. We had thought about the second floor for a long time, but we couldn't see how to make it work and not look like an addition. That's why we ended up doing the first two additions.
When we decided to do the second floor,we looked around at houses in the area that were being remodeled in a style that we liked and asked the homeowners who did the design. We met with the architect and talked about our ideas and he came up with a design that made our house look like it was built that way.
Two years after we finished our dream house we decided we needed to add another addition to have my in laws move in with us,as my father in law suddenly became very ill and they couldn't live by themselves. Again we contacted the architect and he incorporated a fairly large addition into our house that makes the house look even better than before. If I recall correctly the cost was in the six to nine hundred range for each of the last two additions. Well worth the cost in my opinion.
Sorry for the long post, but I think you have a nice house/yard /garage set up,and think it would be a wise investment for you also.

You could use scissor trusses and get a couple extra feet clearance in the center.

I would think about enclosing the addition, it will be nicer with extra storage space with shelves ont he walls. I will add security as well. The cost to put the walls is not that much once you already have the rest.

BB767 (Thomas) has a carport with scissor trusses, or maybe just rafters sloped. I can't remember exactly but it does give a little more headroom that you would be looking for.

Personally I would add onto the garage and come forward with it, enclose it in vs. a carport, then just add a breezeway to the house (or not) to still have access to the backyard from the front.

Great looking cars BTW.
