And yes, my father and I bought a boat, not anything big and fancy, but it was affordable and it suits our need to go out fishing..

Its a 18 ft Hansvik for the late 80s and a 75hp evinrude from early 2000s.. We also bought a trailer for it to sore it on land in winter..

We also have had time to do a few mountainhikes around our house.

The most garage-related this summer has been a few upgrades on the excevator. New LED-lights, and a lot of them. I dont really need them since I mainly use the machine in summer and since we have midnight sun I never really use them, but they look cool :D

I also finshed the rotator for the claw.

Wazza, I'm not sure why but sewers seem to wait for company to arrive before they back up. The septic system dry well in our first house reached capacity on Mother's Day. Had to dig down to the dry well lid to relieve the pressure and temporarily fix the backup. Dug a 16-foot wide by 12-foot deep hole by hand and built a second dry well. That was so much fun I dug another smaller dry well for the washing machine drain a year later. We had a hollow back yard when I was done.

Your luck with insurance covering some of the work is quite unusual to me. I have insurance on just about everything but I was unaware they did anything besides collecting money.

Nice boat and motor ! How do you like the motor ?

Are you using exclusively on fresh water lakes or also in fjords ?

Ahh, that *****! Anything that has to do with sewer is not funny at all! You can see in these photos that the pipe had cracked along almost the entire lenght. I a colourpowder that is used to detect leaks i sewersystems and pured into the drain in the basement. The next day, before the contractor arrived the ground was clearly green from all the leaks..

The reason some of this repair was covered by insurance is because the pipes are plastic and they are supposed to last for a lot longer than these did..

@theoldwizard1: Thank you, The boat and motor works great. The engine is actually a bit to large for the boat. The hull is not ment large speed so it tends to get a bit unstable if we go to fast. The nice thing with such large motor is that we dont have to run it very hard to keep a good speed. We usually run it at 2800-3000 rpm. At that speed there is not much noice, fuel consumption is very good and the boat is stable. The boat is used in the fjords. It has not been on land for the last 4 years, so it needs to have a good cleanup this winter..

WAZZZA: sorry to hear about the busted pipe and sewer issues and hoping the smell has left your home long ago while you are working on the repairs.

always nice to see what you've been working on in your SPARE TIME which with 2 jobs can't be that much and you put a lot of us to shame.

that's the way to buy a boat. get relatives and friends to help with the costs and maintenance and hopefully you'll get to use it when you like to and guessing you will cause it's parked in front of your house.

enjoy the sun while you have some and feel free to post on other threads if you are just working your **** off this winter.

cheers

Thanks, I love the fjords as wel..

Thank you, its nice to see that people are reading my posts.. Part of my heritage came from Finland in 1850s I think, and a few member of my family moved to America later on. I have no connection to them, but I know that I am partially related to a a writer/reporter named Solveig Torvik who wrote a book about her/our Finnish heritage. As far as I know she is still alive today. The book is called "Nikolais`s Fortune".

http://www.washington.edu/uwpress/search/books/TORNIK.html

Now, my father came over a few days ago and helped me pour new concrete in the basement.. Its good to know that from now on everything I do will be rebuilding and not tearing down...

I laid down plenty of cable conduits and waterlines before I filled the trenches with gravel..

Loved the pictures of you out hiking and on the boat; it's a beautiful area where you live! Hope you've got most of your outside projects done, as the days are getting short. When does the ground freeze there?

I just want to check back in a year later and say this is the best thread on GJ, and I check it regularly even when I don't come here much. Thanks again Wazzza for showing us all of the work you are doing. Happy upcoming Holidays from Pennsylvania, USA.

(I was inspired to post this because there is a post in General about people complaining about how the Garage Gallery is annoying because people post about more than garages, I just want to say that posts like this are awesome and if they shouldn't be in Garage Gallery then there should be a separate part of the forum for them at least).

Må si det er imponerende ferdigheter og seriøs stå-på-vilje med alle prosjektene dine. Moro å lese. Blir nesten som en blog om deg og ditt :)

Noe ganske annet enn min mini-garage i "tjukkeste Bærum".

I must say you show impressive skills and stamina in all your projects. Your thread is almost like a blog on you and your everyday life. Fun read :)

Something entirely different than my mini-garage in the suburbs of Oslo.

Wazzza: i was looking at your pictures and noticed you have a ton of conduit or piping that you put in the hole so just curious what the plans are for that?

also your pictures of the water with the ferry or large boat in it look alot like here in the PACIFIC Northwest part of the USA of course except our surrounding land has a lot more buildings on it.

thanks for the videos and pictures and hope you get all your outside work buttoned up before winter sets in again.

cheers

Thanks it has been a ton of work, but its a good feeling to know that you have done everything (mostly) by yourself.

The white conduits are for future power from the new main fuse panel to the rest of the house.. Almost the entire basement is torn down so I have laid conduits to all basement rooms and some for future use at the main floor. The black conduits are PEX waterlines for future bathroom, laundryroom, mancave, and for future upgrade of upstairs kitchen..

All outside work came to a sudden stop when the snow and cold came when I was offshore the last trip.

I am sorry to bother all of you with basement renovation, but this have had top priority ever since the sewer got glogged last easter, but the basement hallway is now complete so I am hoping to scrape togheter enough money to finish the garage insulation. Its ***** to work on projects there in winter, so not much is beeing done there.. To finish insulations, walls and ceiling will cost roughly 25-30K NOK ~ 3000-3600 USD, so I have to justify that to the girlfriend instead of finishing the basement rooms...

Hello everyone. Its been very quiet from this side for a long time. That does not mean nothing has happened, on the contrary... ...Not much garage specific dough.

This summer have been all work, inside and outside the house with a very strict deadline.

In short, since my last update I have finished the technical room in the basement with water distribution, the upstairs hallway, new drainage around the house, two new terrasses, one new concrete wall and latest the laundryroom.

Only days after the laundryroom was completed we got our first baby :D :D

42497021_10156354891787247_956176783718219776_o_zpsh1kjhgiy.jpg

I got room for a tool trolley in the technical room. It contains basic tools I use around the house, so I dont have to go out the garage everytime.

Water distribution. Valves on all consumers so that I can Isolate any consumers without loosing water to the others.

Thanks guys. I have been so stressed this summer to complete all onging houseprojects in time for the baby to arrive, so right now I am just relaxing and enjoy the first weeks togheter with the little one.

Since I have paused all future houseprojects for at least this winter I hope to have the time, energy and money to FINALLY finish the garage insulation and get proper organised. Today I have open shelves on one wall for general storage. This works ok, but I dont like the dust buildup on everything in them. Especially when I do metal or woodwork. I want to replace some of the shelving with steel cabinets. Since I probably never will keep the garage heated during winter I would like to mount a frostguard (small heater) inside one cabinet for paint, polish and other chemicals to keep them frost free.

WAZZZA: good thing you've got some serious skills cause you maybe have a couple of the most expensive things to maintain. A new baby and a boat.

well seriously congrats on the baby and hope you and your bride enjoy the seriously good ride called PARENTING.

all the work looks great and happy to see you got it done before your winter sets in again.

Congrats on your new sound system!

I think it’s really neat to see how things are done in different parts of the world, thank you for sharing.

I used to work in the film industry so I know what it’s like to put projects on hold for months at a time. The flip side is that you also get to focus on a project for more than just a week-end or evenings when you get off of work.

Thanks for the gratulations.

I am finally back and doing garage-work again. I bought a sheetrock lift in order to install OSB-sheets on the roof. The garage is supermessy at the moment so I am trying to clean it up prior to roof insulations. Its much easier to move around when there is not much stuff around the floor. A lot of stuff went up to the attic using the winch.

Hopefully I am done insulating the roof during this week and can start with plating the roof afterwards.

The rest of the insulation is in house. I use 20 cm ~ 8" of insulation in the ceiling and 10 cm in the walls. I got 3 rows/5 packs of ceiling insulation and vapourbarrier installed yesterday. A real pain to install the plastic alone with the boat and other stuff around in the garage.

A little progress these last days. The boat is finally prepped for the winter, out of the garage and on the ocean again. The roof is finished insulated and vapourbarrier installed.. The garagedoors with rails is to be disassembled when the front wall is plated, so the vapour barrier will be taped and repaired were the sruts go through the barrier when that time comes. The doors ae not well installed and jammes so they have to come down anyways...

I am painting the OSB-plates prior to install as I assume its easier to paint them now rather then later upside down. I turned the heater on for 20 minutes and BOOM, 20 degrees C and T-shirt weather :bounce:

I am still not sure how to heat and ventilate the garage in the future. I will most likely use a mini ventilationsystem like a Mitsubishi VL100 and a heatpump (reversed AC) for heating. With that setup I can control the humidity when I park a snowy and icy car in the garage without venting out all the heated air.

A little progress is made. Half of the ceiling plates are installed and half of the front wall is insulated and plated. My neighbour helped me dismantling and installing the garagedoor.

It is a bit challenging installing the plates by myself, even with the platelift I have to move the ladder multiple times in order to make the plates "lock" into each other.

Another time consuming thing is to move everything around in order to make space for the lift and ladder. The bigges job however will be to clear out the shelves on the last wall.. That will be a true pain. I have no idea how to organise stuff during insulation and plating of that wall.

Looking better all the time; any progress is better than none. Will be real nice when it's finished and you can work inside out of the cold.

I am SO looking forward to having the garage done and ready to be working IN. The dodge ram really needs some attention this winter. Doors are rusted and needs paint, and all maintanance have been delayed due to all other activities this summer.

With the baby and the need of a bigger familycar we bought a 2016 Volvo V70 AWD D4, the last year of V70-model with AWD and the 5-cylinder diesel. Its only 181hp, but it is the same engine as the D5 wich is close to 230hp. A really nice car with plenty of space. My girfriends Rav 4.3 D4D was just to small for us with the baby-wagon and stuff... We still have the Rav as it is well suited for her to shopping and such, just to small for all of us on longer trips.

20180630_200349_zpspx0oi2fd.jpg

So the biggest news.. This thing showed up in my garage while I was at work in the north sea. This was a give away for free to the first person to get it. I had a stressful evening trying to get in contact with friends back home to go get it for me..

It is a fuel (diesel, parafin etc) powered heater with heat exhanger so the exhaust goes out and only clean heated air goes into the garage.. It puts out over 90kW (320000 BTU/h) of heat and is far bigger than what I need, but is was free so I cant complain.. It needs a little work such as new fuelpump (new came in a box with the heater) and just regular TLC.

The original plan was to put the heater in the loft and rund airducts down, but I think it is to tall I am afraid...

Free heater for the garage. Great work getting that picked up for you while at work. Once you get that going it will make your work space comfortable for all that maintenance on the truck.

Free is always good.:beer::bowdown:

A friend who picked it up for me sent me this picture. The van is a Ford Connect to compare size.

I'd rather have more heat than I need instead of less! That is a great find there. Congrats on the little one and glad to see you are back and keeping this thread updated. Every time I read it I am encouraged to try to do some type of upgrade to my house or garage. You do great work and your attention to detail is excellent!

Thank you W2Synth for that nice comment. I have not had the time to do any work in the garage for a long time.. New job (same company, only new platform) and lots of training and courses while onshore...

Here is a short video of installation of the last two platforms of "Johan Sverdrup" were I work. They were installed a few weeks ago using Pioneering spirit and Thialf for bridge installs. A 5.th plattform is planned to be installed in 2022.

I was finally able to get the last piece of osb on the wall, and got the first coat of paint up. I am now seeing light at the end of the tunnell.

The kokoverk heater is up and running. It turns out the pump and injector/nozzle was full of rust and contamination. I dissasembled everything and cleanes them in the ultrasonic cleaner with a bag of lemon acid powder from baking department at the grocery store. I also cleaned the burnchamber from soot and deposits. The heater puts out ridicilous amounts of heat. I only need to run ut for max 10 minutes to raise the temperatur from -10C to +10C.

This is where the heater will be placed. The exhaust runs up to the loft and out.

After I have painted a second coat I will install a few trimpieces and reinstall the lightfixtures prior to reinstalling the shelves...

Wow!
That Johan Sverdrup platform is amazing. Looks like a mini city.

Congrats on getting the rest of the OSB sheets up.
Just in time before spring is in the air and all the outside activities begin.

The Johan Sverdrup field will be a great place to work when its all finished and produsing oil. It is estimated to produce for over 50 years, so I will hopefully have work there until i retire... ...in 34 years.

Thanks, another milestone was reached today. I got the upper wall finished s I could install the shelves again and start to get organised again.. It was cold today so I fired up the kokoverk. The temperaute raised from +6c to 18c in just 6 minutes! That thing i a beast!
