garage insulation?? spray in stuff??

Hey guys, I am buying a new shop with pretty high ceilings and it has partial radiant heat and I want to continue the radiant heat in most of the shop as well as use my current waste oil furnace for quick heat and to get rid of my used oil.
\My big question is that this place has partial ceilings that are 20' high and I want to insulate them as there is none as of right now...
I keep thinking the spray in insulation would work good and then apint the entire ceiling with black paint after its done, but I have heard of a product that is like paint and insulation in one? Does anyone have any info on it?

FYI: the ceilings are steel girders with steel flat roofs and rubber over that.

I have not heard of that, doesn't mean it isn't out there, I just never heard of it. But I think they spray some sort of stuff over the spray foam in order to make the spray foam fire retardant. Is it possible that is what you are thinking about?

I just had it quoted for my brand new garage. $5200 vs $900 for a 24x24 garage with 400 sqft room above. The bat insulation I had installed is r19 walls and r30 ceiling.

In your case, adding a drop ceiling would add some insulating value as well.

I had spray foam done in my house when I remodeled and in my new garage upstairs. I will have the downstairs sprayed once I have the utilities set in the wall this spring.

Yes, its more expensive, but it works incredibly well for insulation and for blocking air leakage.

I sprayed the stuff in my garage white with a simple primer and paint, barn paint special. I had foam done and painted in another building probably 25-20 years ago and it held up extremely well with a simple paint coverage. I wouldn't bother painting if you are going to cover it up, but if you want to leave it open to sunlight, I think painting is a must.
