How much would it cost to have a contractor insulate a garage ceiling on a 20 x 20 garage, say 12" blown in and 3, 20 foot walls, r13, 9 feet high.

I'll be curious what folks have to say on this one. I'm looking at insulating the ceiling on my 24 x 30 here in DE. Looked at Lowes for R38 fiberglass, and that looks to be about$800 for just the insulation. I've heard that it is sometimes less expensive to have an insulation contractor do the install than to buy materials. Any truth to that?

I have a 22 x22 x12 two car and haven't ventured up into the attic space... I'm also wondering if it's cheaper to just farm it out vs. doing it myself. I'm in North NJ.

Also, does anyone know of any rebates for adding insulation?

Getting some of those insulation rolls and putting it in yourself with a staple gun is extremely easy. If you already have drywall up and arent working with open walls it becomes harder and thats where professionals are needed... more for their equipment than anything else.
