Getting ready to move into our new place and am needing some ideas. I have a 3-car attached garage, that I would like to turn into a man/car cave of some sort. Cars will not be housed in this space on a regular basis, but I would like the option to pull cars into if needed, with just a little rearranging. Anyone else do something like this? Before anyone gets after me for not using my garage as a shop. My property has a shop and another garage on it. So I have that covered.

Really looking for a place friends can come over, and kick back in some comfort without really going into the main house much. But still maintaining the garage feel or functionality if needed. After all, I'm a car guy. Basically, 2 bays will be for the man cage and the 3rd bay will be for a 69 Mustang.

Any thoughts or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of seating that is easy to wipe off dust. I am building a shop/garage/hangout myself and think all one needs is a TV, fridge, bathroom and a few chairs.

A big part of your design will be dependent on what your hobbies are. Some guys want to sit down and watch sports all day, others maybe shoot pool or play cards. My neighbors were board game junkies and had weekly game night with their friends, they had hundreds of different board games.

Back 10 yrs or so we lived in Md and ate a lot of crabs. One neighbor fixed up his garage for that. They can be messy so eating in the garage made a lot of sense. His was not too elaborate. He did a standard kitchen base cabinet w/ a few wall cabinets and sink across most of the back wall of his 2 car. There was some other decor that fit in but mostly what was nice was there were no lawn or garden tools or supplies in there at all. Interior of the garage was full drywall and trim so it looked just like a home except the floor was concrete. I 'think' it had some epoxy on it. The home powder room was just inside the man door to the house so that worked great. He built a rack along the side wall to hold maybe 20 light weight folding chairs and 5-6 folding card tables went somewhere out of the way but I don't remember that detail. He had a window AC unit also.

Thanks, everyone! The photos definitely have given me some ideas to consider. Generally speaking though, the area will be decorated with oil and gas items. Signs, cans, pumps, and so forth. Wanting the area to complement a couple of cars we have, while still having a social area. I think at this point, the social area will be just a couple of high-top tables, a tv, and a fridge.

Suggesting that people who have worked at having a nice garage are not focusing on their families is silly. I know a lot of people who have over time fixed an area to spend time in and are also very good at spending time with their families, sometimes even in their sanctuary. There are some really nice garages shown here that you can tell have been done with recycled material, I repurpose furniture in my "church" and still make plenty of time for my family.

Which is why I said "to each his own." No judgment made. It is what it is. Myself? I wouldn't create a space like that, but that's just me.

One thing I do with my shop eqpt is to have them on casters when possible so it can quickly and easily be reconfigured for projects and cleaning. So, I vote for wheeled gear.

There's heavy implication made that those with a showpiece garage have neglected their families. Throwing in a disclaimer by stating "to each his own" really only makes you sound like you know you're judging, but trying to convince others you aren't.

It is a pattern with your posts, though, that anyone who thinks or does something differently than you is wrong or ignorant.

Interesting. I don't recall exchanging posts with you, though. Funny that you think you know me...

man, with the amount of metal work and such I do in my garage, i couldnt decorate like you guys do .
I do a fair amount of wood working and metal working plus some engine repair. I need a shop area I can clean ou with a broom and leaf blower!
LoL. That's nice, but that's not a garage, that's a living room for cars.
I get a kick out of many of these "garages". They are an extension of the house's living space more than a garage. I can nor see doing any serious wood working or metal working in one. If you have the room and money to dedicate to a space like that, more power to ya!
I entertain in the house, the garage might get cleaned up for a larger group, but it doesn't happen often.

Dude, you post like 50 times a day on a public forum. It's almost impossible to not know you/your posting style.

It's not the first time you've been told that either, so I know it isn't a surprise.

You routinely knock others ideas on how people should live their lives and spend their money. I don't need to have direct conversations with you to see that happening on this site.

Casters are awesome. I use them on whatever I can.

If its something that needs to be stable when in operation or use, I try to come up with a way to make the casters easily lowered/raised.

I'm just an old guy with opinions. Everyone here has opinions. You just don't like my opinions, I guess. That's cool with me. 🤷‍♂️

I'm glad there are many opinions shared on this board. I have no interest in hanging out in an echo chamber.

I believe it can be done without taking shots at other's family values and the insinuations that go along with that, though. I've seen you do the same with tools.

The more that people post comments like your earlier statement, the less people are interested in posting up pictures of cool things they've built and done, subjecting themselves to those who take shots at how they prioritize their time.

Those over the top jobs/shops/tools/etc. are a part of what make this place so cool. No one has to copy what someone did, but it's a great place for inspiration. There's no need to knock others for their accomplishments.

With that, I'm done with this part of the conversation.

I'm sorry for the thread hijack midwestguy.

While my garage above looks really neat and orderly, it parks to daily drivers everyday and nextweekend might be having an engine change or transmission work being performed getting dirty and nasty. It gets well used.

Some guys treat their garage/shop like a church. Others work in it as needed and focus on their families most of the time.

First - My family has my focus ALL the time and not just "MOST of the time". But hey, to each their own! ;)

Second - Really sad how some just assume that guys are the only ones into cars. My wife is actually the car crazy person in our family. The garage will be for family and friends to enjoy. We love hosting! Particularly, before and after cruz nights. Gee, it's almost like the whole family is into cars. Who would have thought?

Third - Just because you can make an assumption, doesn't mean it's correct!

Guys generally spend time in their garage because they want to be home with their family, not out running around. I loved my father, I the time I spent with him in the garage, in the yard, under the house and on the roof are some of the best memories of my childhood.

My mom wanted us out of the house anyway.

I've done 2 garage setups with mixed use for hanging out and working, but heavily leaning towards working. I don't to engine work, but have done most other stuff.

My current garage build is linked in my sig.

My last one is here:

One thing that really pulled it all together was using bold removable wallpaper on the back wall behind the TV—adds character, and if I ever change my mind, it's easy to swap. Highly recommend it if you want some personality without committing to full reno.

Any thoughts or photos would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like an awesome setup. I did something similar with a 2-bay setup: kept one side more open for occasional work on my old Bronco, and built out the other with a couch, mini fridge, and a big screen. I used reclaimed wood and matte black metal for that rugged look without losing the garage vibe. A couple of good chairs, a fridge, and decent lighting go a long way too. Would love to see what you come up with ;)
