Garage Journal Calendar?

I recent thread talking about calenders got me thinking.....

Why not a "The Garages Of Garage Journal" Calender?

You could submit a pic of your garage along with a short description and any other comment.....then members could vote....pic 12 for a calender...then go down to Office Depot where they will make a calender for you using the pics you supply.

Following year....new calender....if you have been on it...your excluded for say 3 years so someone else has a chance.

We could apply some 'rules' or guidlines....Best use of space....originality....uniqueness.....etc.

Of course we know Jack's garage would be on the first calender....and I know of a couple of other 1 car garages that would be good canidates....the 'keep it real' in me says that the over the top garages would not be in it....

What do you guys think?

Re: Garage Journal Calender?

It would be a good idea to generate revenue for maintenance and improvement of the site.

GREAT idea ddawg! The anti-site has one and my shop was in year one.

A good idea would be to leave one page blank (just the GJ logo) and each member could place their shop in that space. Then everyone gets to be in the "Official" GJ calendar!

Until a brand or manufacturer finds out their trademarked product appears in a for-sale calendar.

Take a photo, you own the copyright. Take a photo of a trademarked object, you hold the copyright. Take a photo of a trademarked object and try to sell it, you need a release.

Tim....those pics are 'funny'.....

But what concerns me more is that you have them......

Please drop your man card off at the door please.....

Of course, you can redeem yourself by posting some pics of females (clothed and under 200 lbs in weight)

Re: Garage Journal Calender?

Sell it? :dunno: Downloadable file ~ donations accepted ~ not required. :D

I would happy to submit a photo or two for consideration and don't object to the idea.

Just saying that the best option - to create a calendar that people can order and have printed via a professional service rather than their home printer can be problematic.

Sounds good, could charge an entry fee and winner gets a free calender....
2 rules 1. E-Tek can't use his wife in any photos entered and 2. Jack Olsen can't enter, his luck at getting published is just too good :lol_hitti

Well perhaps we need them so we get something printed . Will be interesting to see if Ryan chimes in on this seein he does have a big input into the HAMB product / calendar.

If we want to do this we need a theme that suits the GJ forum. Car / Vehicles owned by GJ members or garage scenes ? We also need be be unified as to what we want.

I think we can not have one for 2013 as it could not be done in time specialy if you want something like that on the HAMB but now we have started this idea of a calendar we should be able to have something for 2014.

Sad, but true. Still in!

Yea....I agree as well.....at a minimum, it would take a month or more to vote on pictures.....then your looking at 1-2 months to get them made......

And in all fairness....we need time to give members a chance to 'clean up' their garages and submit their pictures.....

But now that there looks like some interest.....lets kick around some format ideas.

Do you want to just see a gallary of garages?

Or...a category? (we would need 12)....say, best use of space....best storage....best 1 car, most stuff shoved into it? ect.....

I think the advantage of a category is that it will be easier to decide on a group of pics....i.e., member submits his pic for a category....in my case, the most cluttered....

Side note....first time I've ever had a thread I started made into a sticky.....

Congratulations, I felt the topic deserved a sticky as it is showing how we want to support the forum we all enjoy.

For the month of January.....I'd love to see a snow covered pic of Nastyzen's garage.....

 :lol_hitti We need 12 months to get this idea up and running and we need input from Ryan as to how the HAMB calendars are done. Ryan has made the HAMB ones a sort after collectors item so we want something the same here.

We also need to have a way of submitting photos and then have one person (Ryan :dunno:) say what he will accept as after all the GJ is his forum and I guess he would be the one with the final say.

Or the other option would be for Ryan to give permission for another member to make them, sell them and distribute them. Also needed here would be permission for the GJ forum logo to be on them.

I've seen plenty of mid year starting ones.
Good to be different aye. Just like GJ guys.

Here is another idea, we could look back over the last 12 months and ask the ones with the most popular topics / builds on the forum to submit a photo for the following years calendar.

EPIC POSTS OF 2012!
Nothing political.
Steve's workbench comes to mind.
Some of the tool restorations are pretty awesome, as well as some of the fab work.

I think you have a good point.....it doesn't always have to be about a garage...but why not what is done in it.....

It's starting to look like we have enough ideas to have a different theme for each month....though I would think we would want to pass on the HF tool of the month......

I also agree with Justanoldguy....no reason it has to start in Jan....

I would be interested in purchasing, or making a donation, for a actual calender. To download a file and find a printing shop sounds like a pita. I recall seeing car forums selling calenders showcasing member cars. What kind of copyright issues are they having? Calling all lawyers....

I think this is a great idea. I think it would be better if they were made at one publisher and sent out. If this is done, they need to be priced affordably and not outrageous so members will buy them.

Clive, not knocking your idea but if it is to be collectable like the HAMB version we have to start at a point. We also need some time to do this. Input and confirmation etc. of what the first one will cover.

 Thanks, we have had some great topics over the last year and many projects here on the forum have been good. Some simple and some with some great photos so it would be easy to find something to use.

The idea of starting it mid year and running again to mid year would be different and could offset production costs just for that reason. Also it could be vehicle built in our Garage or a tool that is specific to our own garage. As long as it is GJ forum related.

Even a collage of a mix of pics for each month.

That could work well. Great idea.

We need Ryans input on this. We also need to know more about the HAMB forum version as to me it makes sense we work on the same lines as that calendar.

I am going to make Ryan aware of this topic as we need his input.

I've made calenders on a photo printing site, they simply start the month you make it and go for one year...where does it say it must start in January and end in December?

Read what I posted above and we still need some input from Ryan about this idea as he does them for his other forum the HAMB.

I own a printing company, I can print them for much cheaper than a photo printing site and can start/end on a any month you want.
