I wonder if there would be any interest in a Garage Journal calendar
with photos of Garage Journal members garages?
They'd likely be expensive with a limited run, but they might be cool.
I wish I had thought of this back in the fall so they could already be out
but we could do what we can and then get something going for 2016.

We could ask members to submit photos of their garages with a short
paragraph description.
If it works and we have more time for next year and we get enough
submissions we could let members vote on which photos get in the
calendar.

Let me know what you think. I have a connection with a good print
shop that I know could do a great job with them.

It may be possible to have special dates printed on the calendar pages.

I'm not doing this to make money, they would be just what printing
and postage cost.

What do you think?

Personally, I think we should do it for the site. Give the profits to Ryan for equipment costs and expenses.

Yeah that could be done, but for him to get much the calendars would likely
be more expensive than many folks would want to pay.
I would expect they would likely be $25 each add a couple bucks or more for
postage and they get expensive. Would anyone pay $30 for a calendar
so we could pay something to the web owner? I don't know.

This subject is brought up just about every year at this time. I have pondered the idea also. With online companies, you can get pretty much anything you want starting on any month you want. I agree with you that Ryan should benefit from this venture. After all, without Garage Journal around, I would be getting a whole lot more done around the house. I suppose we could start submitting some photos from other threads and see what we come up with picturewise while getting some pricing and figuring out the other details.

Ron, thanks for bringing this up. I'd be interested but I think $25-30 is a bit much. Did you ever get a quote from the print shop.

Not sure actual member's garages would be the best subject. There are so many. Maybe that's why this idea cools down quickly. Let's have some suggestions for alternative material.

I'd vote for close ups of individual features with a thumbnail within the frame of the general context. Remember that only 12 pics will make it out of 1000's of possibilities. That's the problem. If this was a forum about only vises, it would still be a problem. Or tools "from the Old World."

And, let's rule out pinups. We have plenty right here.

You need to find ways of lowering cost.
Have adverts from GJ business owners and have coupons for discounts with said businesses.
You need to have a contest to get the most interesting garages in there, but different pictures must be used than those used in pitch for contest. If people see the pictures in calender online there is no reason to buy.
Maybe a car of the month and fabricated tool of the month or the well know rack of the month in a cutoff GJ tee shirt.

Its sounds like a good idea except for only garages. You have to capture the entire essence of the website by incorporating some cars, tools, garages, hell even electrical and plumbing stuff will need to be in there. Or you can make a cars one, a garage one, a tool one and so on.

Wow, it sits for 2 days, when i throw in the towel suddenly everyone has
an idea...
It was going to be a garage journal calendar, but don't put pictures of
garages in it,
someone else wants it for free so they can print a home.

No i haven't gotten a quote from the printer yet, i wasted a half hour
on the phone talking about ideas for the calendar this morning that
i'll never get back.

Your unhappy when you do not get responses, and your unhappy when the responses are not to your liking.

We do one for our car club, with around 400 members we usually struggle to get a dozen good photos to use. Typically sell about 100 calendars we get a good deal on printing from a club member so we can sell them for $10ea, which covers our costs.

A garage calendar would be cool, might be able to subsidize the cost some by having vendors advertise on it.

Would be fun to have things like Epstein day, sk day etc. on the calendar.

People try for calandars...t shirts...stickers every year and it NEVER happens. Kind of a bummer but there's so much money being made in advertising on here..... that would probably be chump change in profits....

The idea is good, but you need to be open to criticism. This is the Internet and everybody has something to say...kinda like I am doing.

Seriously, if they were $10-$15 it would be available to the masses. Anything more, only a select few will buy it and eventually interest and sales will disappear.

Thanks Ron! But it's 2015 in two days, some people of us don't use calendars any longer. We use the calenders on our phones
