I'll be curious to see who pops up. We lost a couple of our major players who used to post all the time thanks to SO price bashing.

I think most dealers and manufacturing reps want to fly under the radar here. If price isn't argued about, country of origin will be, and then there's the hey, do me a favor crowd and warranty this bucket of tools for me.

There's not a great benefit in dsclosing what you do here.

Whatever happened to Mike Wren -- the TopTul dealer? Is he still around? I thought I did a lot of hard work to get the TopTul name out there. And the stuff looked good, though I never did try it out.

Is that what happened to chad and the other snap on guy from Texas?

That's my belief, yes. I think Chad might even have communicated his feelings at one point. He still posts from time to time, but it is very infrequent.

Lol. Toptul was a bad GJ trend.

I would disagree. If the marketing plan ever got worked out, I think it would be more common. Granted, Toptul won't make you give up your truck brands but, that's not the point. Toptul offers a durable product at a more than reasonable price. Besides, so many of the tools from Taiwan are the same with only the name and packaging changed.

Mike Wren was (is) a stand up guy, I think it's overwhelming to launch a tool brand though.

I think they should be back here, I also think the price is right where it should be. This may seem contradictory to my other statement but its not. Its never been my argument that they didn't deserve their price,,,, but the argument from OTHER people that its some kind of great investment.

That somehow Walmart is robbing them for a 20$ set of Stanley and the truck man is doing them a favor going then a 20$ discount on a 600$ set. Sales tax alone of 36$. My argument is if you dont feel screwed by that why would you insist that Walmart or Sears is fukking their customers?

Its just a question of buying logic.

It is sad that with all the bashing on SO and other brand that we lost a valuable resource when chadster and others stopped posting.

I now feel bad for everything I might have said and thought about the truck tool brands pricing.

While I'm busy congratulating myself on what bargains I pick up at flea markets and garage sales, I doubt that my customers (I don't have any) would be happy with all the productive time I wasted in the process.

I doubt my children (I don't have any) would be pleased that on the weekend they hoped to spend with Dad, he was more interested in the super duper swap meet over in the next county.

I doubt my unfinished car repair projects (I have many) will ever forgive me for allowing dust, rust and debris to settle on their delicate parts because I would rather clean and restore a wrench I probably will never use, then to use the wrenches I already have to finish the jobs I started.

To Chadster and others who got tired of the nibbling critics on this forum: Come back. Garage Journal is a forum for professionals, and you guys cater to the needs of the professionals, who cater to the needs of their customers. I am just a curious onlooker who likes to hang out in the garage because I get a thrill watching what the professionals do.

Its sad how snap on gets crammed down people throat every time they want a new tool. Its also said that if you suggest a tool that Isnt made in the USA you get bashed.

I'm all for tools that get the job done. I'm not brand prejudice, except when the brand cost more then it should. Just seems like every time someone wants a new tool, first link I see is snap on. Not even know the users preference or budget.

Some People associate giving opinions or buying Domestic tools at "Cramming" it down peoples throats. Yes.. There was a Time where "Instant" bashing ran rampant here at GJ, But those days are Long gone and Now the Tide has turned and Truck tools get the full blunt of this Crazy new math.

Sorry to keep the thread off topic but, I think one of problems are people say the wrong thing and get the wrong answer. Ok I know damn well Snap-On, Cornwell, and sometimes MAC make some of the finest tools in the world. They make up 99% of what i own and use. When an OP says I want the very best of course ppl are going to recommend a 200$ ratchet. Why would you not? The quality of the tool truck brands can't be disputed. The other problem is a professional tool user and at home DIY have different tool needs. When my ratchet is in my hand for hours at a time when crawled into center of a shockcrete pump the quality fit and finish matter. When changing a headlight on the ol lady's Denali once a year the brand is not a concern.

It's also Pretty sad when someone asks specifically about a USA truck tool and guys start saying don't waste your money and get the HF roto instead of the SO. It does the same thing don't it? Then proceed to say I have never had an issue with my HF tools but also don't use them daily to make a living. I works both ways. There are just as many HF chest thumpers as critics
