Garage Landing Repair

Hey guys!

Prior to grinding down my floor to prep for a new epoxy coating, I need to address the edge of a landing that runs the width of the garage.

I am not sure of the proper way to make the repair on this, but I am sure that it would cause my new flooring to fail if I don't do something. As you can see in the pictures, the face edge of the step is separating from the landing behind it. It almost looks like someone applied a coat to a face of concrete that was spalling.

In the center of the garage, a light tap of a hammer causes the concrete to fail. As I move closer to the sides of the garage, the face of the landing is fully attached and a tap does not sound hollow or shatter the concrete.

So, now I turn to your advice on how to fix this mess. Is it possible to repair the center section of the landing while leaving the edges? What would be the best way to go about stabilizing the landing so it doesn't continue to chip away?

Easiest way I see would be to snap a chalk line 1/2" or so back from where it is spalling and use a 4" grinder with a diamond blade and just remove that 1/2" piece the width of the garage. If you are trying to maintain that exact line you will need to remove all the patch work and use a bonding agent before repairing with a concrete product of your chioce. Finishing that off with a concrete edging tool. Then you would need to wait the number of days for it to cure before topcoating. 1st option would take a few minutes and you can apply flooring product of your choice once your done.
