Hi everyone. I have a 1 car garage, roughly 10x20. It's my garage, my work shop, my man cave. Does anyone have any ideas to free up some space? Or any ideas to better utilize the space.

My dad and I built just a little 10x10 utility shed outside his garage. He uses it to keep some of the bigger items in and the stuff that doesn't get used much. It actually cleaned his garage up a lot. And it was pretty cheap to build. I don't know if you have the room for it but that is an idea.

First step is to not live somewhere that has an HOA. I just bought my first house and the first item on my list was somewhere that doesn't have an HOA. Why would I pay someone to tell me what I can and can't do on my own property?

And it's hard to tell from the low quality pics and turning my head sideways, but it looks like you need to clear some stuff out. I see a fireplace set (poker, broom), do you have a fireplace in your garage? Plantation shutters? A doggy bed on top of tires? Trash what you don't need. I see a few shelves with stuff scattered all over them, consider some type of box/crates to organize stuff on those shelves..... Just browse the forum for a while, there are thousands of ideas here.

My garage was automotive, woodworking and metalworking and storage. It's 9x19.

Took everything out except metalworking.

No storage in the garage of ANY kind.

Simplify, and then simplify some more.

Make your house your man cave.

Take a spare bedroom or part of the basement for storage of all shop supplies.

Kick the cars out and make it shop space only.

Put all tools on wheels.

Buy an enclosed trailer and park it and put stuff in there.

Make the trailer into a shop.

Etc.

Throw out the stuff you haven't used/need. Been living in my house for 5 years, if I didn't need it then, I don't need it now. Clear rubbermaid totes work well to.

I can't tell from the pics, but is there any attic space above the garage? If that is not part of your living space, cut a hatch, get a ladder and some osb and use that for storage of the stuff you rarely use (and is not too heavy).

Lol already filled that space up. Not alot of room around all the trusses

If I had 800SF, I would decide how to use it in each and every particular.

In each space you have to decide if it is going to look great or work great. Sometimes you can do both.

Is it just you?

I know a single guy who uses his living room to cut sails in and sew them up. It's a sail loft, not a "living room".

How about renting a small U-Store-It shed nearby? Inventory and then store all the seldom used stuff over there. I did this for awhile when we last moved and for the year I had it rented (one-car garage size unit) I only needed to go there about 3 times to retrieve something that I wanted. Turned out all that stuff I had been storing in the house garage because I thought I "might need it" turned out to be mostly unneeded junk!!

Next, read a good book about negotiating tactics!! I think your wife won this round!

I would secretly dig below your entire condo and make a massive man cave down there. It's going to take a few years to excavate since you will have to work at night only with no power tools. If this isn't possible I would move.

Yes first step is to throw out stuff that you don't need.
I've been working on mine and found I had just a lot of garbage. I had boxes with small items and bins with boxes inside. Also I found I had things I was saving that were broken or never going to use and I just needed to toss them or donate them

Next step is organization. Get things off the floor. Put up shelves and put like items together. For example: I had a bunch of extention cords which I only used on occasion so I put them in a 5 gallon bucket, labeled it, and put it on a high shelf. Before I had them just thrown in a 5 different places and it took up a lot of room.

In one of your pictures I see a box inside a bin on the floor next to a house vacuum. Start there.
