You defiantly need some more light in there..

I'm in just under 1100sqft also, 28x38 and have 18 twin bulb fixtures in 3 row of 6. I'll probably be addding 2 more rows of 6 soon. I installed all mine end to end and drilled the ends to put a romex connector in them so that all the wiring runs through the strips and is not exposed for a clean look, as the ceiling had already been sheetrocked and has no attic access.

Continuous lighting with no breaks. I love it, the more the better.

I was in a staples the other day and was looking at the lighting layout, and it was all 2-bulb strip lighting end-to-end in multiple 100'+ long rows. No additional hanging sodium high pressure domes above or skylights like many stores integrate in conjunction. It was very nice and even lighting. Of course the shear amount of bulbs makes a difference but the layout was nice.

I have pretty much the same setup as ket-tek,3 rows of tandem F32T8 (8foot,48" lamps)fixtures mounted end to end.I have switched each row separately,so I can have as much or little light as I need. You may have to get a bit creative in mounting them in your building, but shouldn't be a huge obstacle.

You may wanna "over-do" your lighting since you don't have any light colored walls to reflect lighting. Bright colored walls help a ton, and unfortunately that's not on your side right now.
