Garage lighting! The biggest problem

what types of lighting do you recommend? I have got fluorescent strip lights in some sheds but i don't really like the colour. In bother shed i just have 2 pendant fittings with some 10w LED bulbs installed but they don't really give of enough light and there is a lot of shadows created. I was thinking that some halogen GU10 downlights with LED bulbs fitted would be quite good or that spotlight strip things with 3/4 LED bulbs fitted. maybe a few batten holders on the wall as well to give some light at the sides for seeing cars? whats your opinions?

Buy T8's - I bought fixtures and lamps above (on recommendation of another member here) and am totally pleased with them. Additionally, the bulbs come in many different color temperatures, so you should be easily able to find something that you like.

halogen and sheds are usually not a good match, as they get quite hot and are not very efficient


T-8's with some tubes that you like the color/temp of....

ah right, if the halogens had LED bulbs then that would work because there wouldn't be much heat output? How Good are the halogen spots for light output? is it shadowy?

Explain again why you don't like T8 strip fixtures? IMO, they are the best option to maximize light output and reduce shadowing. As someone else mentioned you can get whatever color temp T8 bulbs you prefer. I prefer 6500K daylight for photography reasons.

Ugly? Maybe try the wrap fixture style.
Slow to start? Never had that problem.

There are times when you want it lit like the Vegas strip and other times that less might be enough... Rather than worry about the color, I would consider the task most often done. If you need it lit like broadway then serious fleuroscent might be in order. A few plain old bulbs might also be good when you want just general lighting or want to hide from SWMBO with a book or the TV set. Mine is set up for both task and everyday. Just something to think about. ... along with everything else!

The largest section of my garage is 22 x 27 with 13' ceilings. I have solved the lighting issue with 9 (3 rows of 3) CFL daylight bulbs @ 100W each. The place looks like a basketball court when lit.
