Garage Lighting

Good Morning,

This may have been asked before, heck I may have ask before (CRS). Which would give off the most light, thus making the garage brighter. 6 4' 4 buld troffer lights (4 bulbs at 32w or 40w) or 4 8' lights (each has 2 110w bulbs)?

Garage is 11'6"w X 21'l X 12"h

light out put is relative to the lumen output,cri and temperature of the bulbs start with 2 or 3- 4 bulb fixtures and hang with chain so that you can move lights around until you achieve the lighting effects you want. also split the wiring so that you can use half the bulds in each fixture when you don't need so much light

how big is your garage? I installed 8- 6 bulb fixtures with t8 32 watt lamps in a 2400 sqft garage. when I turn on the lights at night with the doors open you can hardly tell when I am welding. I have 1500 watts of light cri 75 6500 temp 2700 lumens i could turn off half the lights and still see plenty. Iwould say about 1/2 watt per sqft would be a good start

The lights will all be flush mounted to the ceiling.

I'd go with 4' T8s (32W, about 2700-2900 lumens per lamp). A F96T12/HO (about 7000 lumens) is brighter than 2 F32T8s, but T12s are being phased out, and the per lamp and per lumen cost of a system running T8s is cheaper than a T12/HO system. Additionally, the lamps are far more common, easier to find, and are available in a greater variety of color temperatures.

Thanks for the info. So why wouldn't someone run the 40w 4' bulbs? Is it because of the Lumens?

The 4' 40 W lamps are T12, and are on their way out. They are actually illegal in new commercial installations, because of their poor efficacy relative to T8s.

My bad I thought that the 2'X4" were the smaller T8 bulbs. I know the 8' 2 bulb set was the T12'.
