I recently built a detached 2 car garage, 2x6 construction with a p-lam beam and rafter roof. Because I chose to do a rafter roof and not trusses, the roof space lends itself to have a loft space added.
The garage is not finished inside, so I still have access to the framing. The garage is 20ft wide and 30ft long. The walls are 10'6" high. i want to add a loft at the 8' height level that is the width of the garage (20')x 12' off the back wall. The use would be for houshold storage, christmas decorations, suitcases etc.
I want to clear span the 20' and hang the 2x8 joist off the beam 12' to the back wall. I can structure the joints on the wall side with jack studs instead of a rim joist and joist hangers.
I need help to figure out the size of the plam beam for my 20' clear span.

Thank you
