None that I know of.

However, FamilyHandyman and "Handy" (I think is the title) is for people who like to build and repair stuff around the home.

Latest issue of FamilyHandyman was dedicated to garage (floor tiles, work benches, shelving, cabinets, etc.)

I like Family Handyman, I've read some great, cheap ideas in there. Like my paint spray can holder from 1x4's and 3" pvc pipe. There's an article I plan to use to build a narrow cabinet into the wall also.

I'd sign up for that!

The name would be "Garage Junkie Monthly" or "Garage-A-Holics" of course.

Imagine the regular features:

"dream garage" - where they feature someone (like that italian guy)

"man-decor" - for the cool bits we "decorate" with (gas signs, car parts, etc...)

"power house" - all about wiring, electricity, powertools, etc..

"toolshop" - all about the tools & equipment we use.

"toys" - features on the stuff we have inside (rods, cars, trucks, etc...)

"how to" - make your own whatever (tools, cabinets, anything)

"wife's corner" - a blank page (I mean seriously, they have NO say in garages)

"readers' garages" - pic we send in.

"comfort zone" - how to heat / cool / ventilate / etc...

"garage politics" - like that issue with the garage that's getting de-zoned.

"bad example" - a garage that's just not right (like used for storage or made into a knitting/sewing room, you get the idea.)

"garage girl" - cuz you gotta have at least one babe per issue. A centerfold for your garage, of course.

Think of the advertisers this would pull in! Sears and related. Garage door makers. Home Depot. Stanley. Coors. Ford / Chevy. Etc, etc, etc.....

It would be like Maxim or FHM without the Bullsh*t fashions and features on movies / mafia / etc... A magazine for real guys, not "metrosexuals".

I'll be the editor, I'll work cheap. It's not a bad Idea for a "digital magazine" start up!

Garage Life

Garage Life out of Japan is the nicest one I've seen....printed on heavy stock (like Architectural Digest) with plenty of pictures...unfortunately most of the text is in Japanese.

garagelifemagazines.jpg

The garages featured in these issues are truly an extension of the peoples homes. Many of the cars appear to be in living room settings. I even found a few pictures taken from my website (http://www.ultimategarage.com/UltGar2y-82905.html ) without my permission...I later told them it was ok in exchange for back issues of the magazine.

Most of the people who have contacted me regarding magazine start-ups (there are at least that I can recall) are looking for a more middle of the road approach for broader market appeal.

You may be able to pick up Garage Life through some of the larger magazine stores....see http://www.neko.co.jp/guest/magazine/garagelife/ for some pics from recent issues. SD

a while back i had a conversation on a message board with one of the writers (since moved on) for BUCKAROO COMMUNICATIONS , he thought a garage mag was a great idea. he suggested i email the publisher (John Dianna) to suggest it to him. while i never got around to it i still think it's a great idea. the mags that they print all have tips sections that are full of great tips. one of the mags (American Rodder) had a series on making your own tools (english wheels, disc sander, belt sander, and a few more i can't remember now) a few years back that was excellent. i think a mag that had tips, buying guides, tool use guides for the beginner, garage of the month (rich to poor it don't matter), garage building ideas, and tool building (big to small) guides would be cool. i'd buy it!!! if he got enough emails maybe he'd bring it out quarterly at first to test the water. some one above had a great point, there are alot of tool makers, floor paint makers and the like that would prolly love to advertise in a garage magazine, and advertising makes the magazine world spin.

Hi, a few weeks ago I saw a job posting for a freelance writer position for Dream Garage Magazine. I sent my resume and samples (I'm a freelance writer) to the e-mail address listed but never heard back from anyone there. Their website is registered - www.dreamgaragemag.com - but there is nothing there yet. So this might be another project that didn't get off the ground.

There is definitely an interest from an advertiser's standpoint. I get a lot of requests to advertise on here all the time.

I would like to see these magazines as long as they applied to everyone (as mentioned before).

Remember the older car mags - how to rebuild this or make this faster..
Now, it's "he spent $70,000 to have his car built"

Just not the same...

Luke,

The future is the e-zine. Magazine-like content delivered in a PDF via e-mail subscriptions. I'll do a little digging to find out the best place to start.

If people are starting to write to you about advertising, perhaps you should be the one to start such a thing???

Count me in as a regular contributor!

I'm a firm believer in the "$2 how to" articles to the "million dollar garage" pictoral.

you saw what I wrote about the parts of the magazine and I'm sure there are a lot more ideas out there.

the cool thing about an e-zine (for me at least) is that I can still enjoy it in the potter. I just print it out (for pennies compared to a regular magazine) and read it when I want.

Watcha think?

GARAGE Magazine celebrates the HOT ROD lifestyle, Lots of primer, tattoos and slutty women. The dispise Boyd Coddinton/Chip Foose Style Hot Rods and the NSRA (Hence the derogratory term "GOLD-CHAINER"). The folks who read GARAGE tend to listen to the Ramones and Black Flag, we dont stroll down the car show enjoying the buddy holley blasting from the speaker for the 50th time today. GARAGE readers make their car run, respect the TRADITIONAL aspects of Hot-Rodding and dont cover their car in billet ****. I would venture a guess that they could give a RATS-*** about the latest Carbon-Fiber Wall outlet selection in Griots Garage Catalog

The magazine or e-zine should be strictly technical and informative.....not catered to hot rodders and there garage......it should be about PEOPLE AND THERE GARAGE

Also it should be for the automotive person and the woodworking guy...hit everyone.....so everyone can enjoy it

Question about the e-zine though....is there still a monthly subscription fee???

I missed this one. Family Handyman (and the likes) are great magazines, as it can be applied to all.

Not everything is garage based, however, a lot can be tied back to working in the garage...
