Hey Guys,
Well I have been on the site for a while now just floating around and getting a lot of ideas but I am getting ready to redo my garage and just wanted to get some opinions on a couple of thing.

First my garage stats:
Size - 24' L X 21' W X 8' H
One big garage door

My Questions
Layout: Currently the garage is laid out so the work benches are to right as you pull into the garage as opposed to at the back wall. There are all these little cubes built on the back wall for storage, not that useful. I am really leaning towards ripping out the wall of cubes moving the benches to the back wall so I have a little more room, especially if the car and bike are in the garage, and getting some cabinets over the benches. Anybody think of any reason not to do it that way? It seems to be the the most efficent layout from what I have seen in pics.

Paint: Right now the walls just have the contractor paint job from 8 years ago, flat white. I am thinking of going with a semi gloss white on the walls and ceiling to make it brghter.

Flooring: Somebody painted it a long time ago, and did a pretty decent job, but it is time to redo it. Based on the amount of work it seems it would take to prep the floor I am going to go with a tile like something from Race Deck. I don't do any welding or anything serious like that.

So that's my plan in a nut shell, any feedback is appreciated.

So if you move the cabinets to the back wall will that make your garage 19' deep? (or therabouts)? If that is the case, I would make sure the cabinets are easily moved. My garage is 21' 10" deep and my husband's truck just barely fits. I ended the cabinets on my half since his truck wouldn't fit if there were cabinets in front of his half. If you are thinking of selling the house in the future, make sure it is easy to make the garage look easily accessible for all buyers.
Paint is an inexpensive way to add character, consider adding some color, on one wall, with a large logo, whatever.
Go checkout the epoxy and floor tile sticky in the flooring forums. Alot of folks have done the research already, at least you can get a head start.

Good luck!

Got it! Cool, then I'd definitely cover that whole back wall with cabinets, workbench and storage!!! What I wouldn't have given for just 2 more feet of length in my garage. Oh well, live and learn.

Just a thought on paint. I had the cheap flat paint on my walls and went with kitchen and bath semi gloss. It works well for me, easy cleanup and is pretty tough paint. :)

Re: Garage Make Over Update

Well I started the make over. Me and my helper broke down the wall o' cubes last weekend and moved the benches over to the back wall. Here are some pics before and after. Somebody really put some time into the cubes. Even used nice 1/2" plywood. I recycled a small section for now. Not sure if I'll keep it or not but need some storage until I get cabinets.

I'll post more after we get a little further.
