Like many of you I've had a pretty good garage for years and build lots of projects in it. But I reached a point where left over project parts and collections of supplies and tools just overwhelmed the space. I had to make a drastic change so I started looking for new cabinets and counters. I liked the Ulti-Mate cabinets sets I saw on Sears' website but the shipping cost ruined the sale price. Then I located them on "One Way Furniture" website with free shipping and no sales tax! I used Sketch Up to draw the 10 piece set of cabinets and counters and fit them into my space with my saws and toolboxes. Once I had a layout that worked it was time to order the cabinets and get to work tearing out the old, moving saws 7 toolboxes out to the patio and putting smaller tools up the the garage attic. once all of the "stuff" was off the walls I could start patching holds and repairing the ceiling.
A fresh coat of paint and new "daylight" flourescent bulbs started to really change the place.

Good job, GREAT INTRO and best of luck. Search these threads and you'll make it even better.

Welcome aboard and congrats for reclaiming your space (a common theme around these parts!)

Little slow here at work so I will continue with the story. With a little design and color help I decided on a cool light grey wall and ceiling and with the daylight balanced lamps it is very bright and a good color for painting and finishing. I went with a bright blue for the lower 2nd color for a design accent, much of it will be behind cabinets, saws and workbenches. After looking into several floor options I decided to go with Car Guys epoxy floor. Their kit comes with everything including gloves, mask, paint mixer and rollers. Their website shows you paint color and flake color choices and it changes as you try out different combinations. Once you settle on a combination it will e-mail you a high rez file so you can print a color photo of what your floor will look like. I like the blue floor with dark blue and white flakes.

My floor had a bad version of floor paint from before it was mine so I decided to sand it off. Then I cleaned the floor with the acid etch included in the Car Guys kit. 24 hrs later it was dry and I mixed the epoxy, poured it all out and start spreading. My son helpped. It was good to have 2 people/ I bought extra epoxy because I have an odd size garage but my advice is to buy more than they recomend. I would have liked more than I used. There are areas that could have been thinker but by and large I am very pleased with the floor. It went down exactly as they said it would. The only issue we had was some leaves blowing in under the garage door. We ran around opened the door and picked out the leaves while it was all still wet.

The finished floor looks great, What a difference, it's hard to believe it's the same place. My timing turned out pretty good in a few day the Ulti-Mate cabinets arrived. A 1350 lb skid it took three of us and a home made metal ramp to get it up in the garage. My dad and son both showed up to start assembling and installaing. 3-4 days later and everything started combing together. Now the challenge to find new homes for everything. What I didn't mention earlier, back a few weeks ago I took two full pick up loads of collected junk off the the dump. As I bring stuff in, I re-evaluate do I need it, can I chunk it? I am also cleaning up all of this stuff that has ben out on open shelves for years. I've burned through two large bottles of spray husehold cleaner that I think my wife is still looking for.

These photos show final assemble of cabinets and bringing back in Toolboxes, saws, etc. I have a large Lionel Train layout that is suspended from the ceiliing with aircraft cables, pulleys and a worm drive boat wench. We made a new light blue fitted dust cover and threw out the green sheets. It was tramatic, I bought those sheets for my waterbed when I moved away from home in the early 70's....before I was married! Yikes.

The stereo is great, the shop is great, now it's time to finish out out the details, put up some cool signs, build a few custom shelves and tool hangers.
Thanks to all of you other guys who posted your garages for the inspiration and motovation to get off my *** and do a Extream Makeover!

Wow! It looks great! And I know you put a lot of work into it. It will all pay off when your projects get done faster.

But I must say, my favorite picture is your son painted into a "corner". How did he get out?

Garage looks great, and I would bet your Dad had a blast doing it. I know mine would have. He is 82, though.

Nice job on the garage! I came back today to see if you had added pics of the layout. My son, now 13, always does a big Lionel display at Christmas. I've always wanted to rig a hoist in the garage for him.
