I was being facetious. But I was liking the grey and white.
Color scheme looks almost french now.
The painting did come out great though, nice straight lines and clean edges.

Well it's not meant to be French. It's Ford Blue for my Mustang and I wanted the white for brightness. I decided on the red line just to add some pop to it. I am tired of gray walled garages plus the floor will be gray.
If I had known how much trouble the red line was going to be I would have skipped it. I just painted the white down to meet the blue and when I tried to paint the red over the different colors I discovered red doesn't cover very well. The different base color made it two different shades of red, so I ended up having to do 2 coats of gray primer and then 3 coats of red on the damn line. Thank heaven for Frog tape. I used the yellow version, for newly painted walls and it worked great. I was afraid, with all the coats that the paint would pull off with the tape but everything came off fine.
I am now working on the blocks and when I get them painted blue maybe, the extra blue area, wont make it look so French.

Man, sorry the paint gave you so much trouble. You did a good job with it it the end, like I said I was impressed with how clean the edges looked, I guess the tape did its job, but you obviously took great care with applying it and making sure it was straight and even. I was just kidding about the French flag, was just busting you since you mentioned it was meant to be patriotic, plus the blue would've had to have been darker . I really thought the grey bottom was going to be closer to the final color, so when I came back your thread to read updates I wasn't expecting to see so much color.
Looking forward to seeing how it looks all complete.

Thanks, I used a laser level, great invention. Between the level and the frog tape doing lines is fairly easy. Laying it out was the easy part, I just needed to understand the colors better.

Most people on here that have incorporated a red stripe or portion of the wall in red have ran into difficulty or it was challenging to some degree.

Red is very difficult to get even and the right color, coat wise. Takes many many coats.

Red is awful. Painted a bedroom in our house a hunter lodge red and it took four coats to get adequate coverage (over a white wall). I won't do that again!
For a stripe on a wall, though, vinyl graphic tape is the way to go...it's just a little more expensive than a gallon of paint and can be ordered to any width....together with a laser level, you'll be done with the stripe in about 30 minutes.

My driveway is concrete pavers in a gray and brown color pattern. I like them but it's a pain keeping the wild stuff from growing in the cracks.

I thought I would give an update. I re-injured my knee so I haven't been able to get the lower blocks on the walls done. I decided to go ahead and do the floor, as I can handle that. Here is the garage floor all prepped. The floor was degreased, pressure washed, ground with the HD Diamabrush, patched, washed with TSP, pressure washed and ready to start the epoxy.
I put down the Bondtite 1101 primer yesterday but don't have any pics. I did the LiquaTile 1184 and DecoFlakes this evening but I'm too tired to take any pics. I'll take some pics tomorrow, after I remove all the excess flakes.

Well I didn't have time to take some pics of the floor after I scrapped all the excess flakes off, I was trying to beat some weather. I got the floor all scrapped and the excess flakes cleaned up, what a job. I got the first coat of EnduraShield 2254 down, I'm about dead. Here are some pics of the floor with the first coat of clear.
Here is a close up.
I'll do the second coat of clear tomorrow and the floor will be done!!

Thanks. I've been following your makeover and you will, without a doubt, have the most elegant garage on the forum. I guess I really should have put this thread in the Gallery section but I was focused on the floor and started it here.
My knee just doesn't want to get better. That's one of the many problems with being old, nothing heals anymore.

Wow thanks, I appreciate that. That's the problem with getting older, thing hurt more. I completely tore my Achilles two nearly two years ago and it still hurts.

Well here are the pics I promised, for those interested. The floor is all done with 2 coats of EnduraShield clear coat. I am extremely happy with the way the floor came out and couldn't say enough good things about the support I got from Fred, at Alpha Garage, both before and during the application.
Now I need to get the blocks painted, paint the poles and a few other small things. Then I will be ready to start bringing in the new Cabinets and returning the garage to useful condition.

Thanks Fred. Yes I called when I had the storm problem and didn't know which way I was going to go. Everything ended up working out and the floor looks great.

That looks totally awesome!! You did a fantastic job. I like the longer (taller) windows. They really make your garage look great. You'll really enjoy your garage now. You should really be proud of all the work that you did.

Out of curiosity, would you be allowed to build a wall to hide the water heater from the street? If so, I think I would do that, then paint the wall to match the other walls.

I don't know but I don't think it's something I would want to do. Maintenance on the W/H would be very difficult if I built it in.

Looks fantastic...garage envy here!!!
I would like to wrap the posts and maybe build a faux cabinet/closet for the w/h...something that would just slide out of the way for access. AND...(I love creating work for other people!), I'm dying to wrap those stair stringers and risers with something befitting the excellent workmanship in the rest of the area. It just looks great!!!
Our new townhouse garage will be lucky to get a fresh coat of paint and 'maybe' a redo on the floor surface. We're not in for about three more weeks, so I've got some time to talk myself into or out of that idea.

Thanks. I am planning on wrapping the posts, wrap is already ordered and I will be doing something to improve the looks of both the water heater and the steps.

Thanks, I haven't decided what I am going to do but it will be after I get everything else finished and moved back in. I can do the W/H and steps at my convenience, once I have the garage put back to normal.

This thread was mainly about the floor and I am very happy with the way it came out. I just wanted to show a couple of pics of the finished product. This is one side with the new garage cabinets and shelves installed. I haven't gotten the other side done yet. I really like the NewAge Diamond Pro cabinets, they are well constructed and very sturdy.

In absolute terms, your garage makeover came out great! Considering it was done by an old guy with a bum knee working alone the results are beyond fabulous. (I have all three of those qualifications).
