Garage Makeover

This is my first post & I wanted to share some before & after photos of my garage makeover. I've lived in this house for about 20 years & the garage was the last room to be redone. The previous owner painted the walls & ceiling a yellow color & the garage floor had 12" x 12" brick pattern " peel & stick " tiles. The couple were retired & actually used the garage as an extra sitting room for hanging out & the husband would smoke cigars with the neighborhood men. When we moved in, I filled the garage with cabinets, work bench, tools & all the other stuff we didn't have room for inside the house. Btw, this is a one car garage so you can imagine I wasn't able to park an actual car in there too! 😀

I know we all like pics, so bear with me while I figured out how to post them. Some pics are on my phone & others are on my I-pad. Thx!!

I started by removing EVERYTHING in the garage, so I could start with an empty space. I moved my cabinets to the basement for extra storage & I installed a new countertop for folding laundry. I put all the outdoor items in my shed where they belonged. And, we had a yard sale to get rid of the stuff we no longer needed or used.

Removed tools, pegboard & started cutting in with primer. I used exterior grade primer & paint due to the fluctuation in temperature.

After primer, we decided to paint the ceiling & walls in grey & the trim in white.

Next I had to do something with that floor, so I installed a RaceDeck floor I designed on their site. After reading other posts on this site, I decided to install the landscape fabric over the tile first, then the floor.

Found some fuzzy dice & decided to redo the rope pull down to my attic stairs.

Thx for the compliments!! I'm very happy with the results! It took me approx. 3 weekends to get to the point where it is now. I should back up & say also, that my motivation came when I purchased the Mustang. I couldn't stand looking at the restored car in the old, outdated garage.

I like what you've done with your garage.
It is a project that I'm working on, for the same reason. We purchased a "new to us" home that the garage isn't finished and my 69 vette just doesn't look right parked in it. GJ has been my inspiration and your post just may give me the kick in the **** that I need to continue. As the temp has been over 90 degrees in there when I get home from work.
What is the reason for landscape fabric under the floor tiles?
Is there a link to instructions on posting pictures from an I phone?

I'm looking forward to pictures of your "stang"

Ol'WhiteCap,
The landscape fabric isn't necessary under the floor, but I decided to install it for a number of reasons. I've read on here that depending on how flat or smooth your garage floor is.....sometimes the RaceDeck floor will make a " clicking " sound when you walk on it. I didn't want to go through all the work of installing it to end up hearing annoying, clicking noises.

By installing the fabric under the floor, not only can you elimate the clicking, you don't have to worry about mold growing if water or moisture gets under the floor. The fabric will dry out from the air flow that circulates under the floor.

I bought one roll of fabric to do my 12'x25' garage & used double sided indoor / outdoor carpet tape to hold the edges down around the perimeter.

Thank God for 69 Mustangs or you would have never gotten those walls painted.

Looks good.

Nice job on the garage, really clean.
I love your ride too, maybe I will see it at a future Mustang Club of America show?

I had these black plastic racks laying around, so I decided to set them up in the garage for storage. I used PVC 3/4" pipe & fittings to create a Curtain rod.

By hanging curtains, it conceals the shelf items & gives it a finished look. If you can tell, I do not like clutter & I've been told more times I can count that I have OCD...LOL!! I take that as a compliment!! 😃
