Garage NG heater B vent out fireplace type vent?

Hi - not looking to join an existing vent from a fireplace or otherwise. This is a question about options to vent a 75K NG forced air low profile heater. Obvious options are vertical through roof or horizontal 52" out side wall. Is there any reason why i cant go horizontal but use the "low profile" fireplace type vent on the outside of the garage wall?

Thanks. Reason for the question is that the roof is steep so i would need to have the B Vent extend 6-8 feet above shingles or horizontal would protrude out about eye level causing a safety concern.

What do the manufacturer instructions say about horizontal venting? I'll guarantee you that specifications and venting instructions are provided in the "factory kneepads" (instructions).

I'd start there... before asking a bunch of random internet "experts"

Type B vent is not allowed for horizontal vent installations- vertical only.

Horizontal venting must be Cat III (stainless steel). You will be able to find all pipe lengths, elbows, wall thimbles and terminations from a venting supplier. Many specs and instructions are online from the manufacturers.

Certifications were changed a few years ago.

Wow, thanks. I did not know that. Last heater I put in was about 10 years ago and i did vertical. Looks like i need to keep researching. I would like to use the low profile vent if possible.

I find that vertical venting is best and most trouble free. You would have to put the support bracing off the roof to the pipe at about 5-6' up, but those are solid installations.

You show the Dura-vent cap which is to their direct vent pipe. I will be interested to see how the dollars compare, DV-B-vent.

Is the appliance calling for a DV pipe? Your manuf instructions should call out all options of vent type and material.

Dollars wise it is more expensive with the stainless duravent pro cap. Its a higher end home so I am more concerned about looks than cost.

Here is an approved cat lll horizontal low profile termination cap, there are others also. You may run into problems if you feel you need a high wind cap as they are usually fairly high profile, otherwise there are several other low profile units on the market.

I am in the hearth business. We use aluminum direct vent pipe everyday for horizontal installs. Direct vent pipe and b-vent are two very different animals. I would go with what the appliance manufacturer has the appliance listed with.
