Garage NG heater info

Hello, i am interested in getting a 45,000 BTU NG heater for my 2 1/2 car garage. No more working in single digit temps any more! I am only familiar with the Modine hot Dawg and the mister heater Big Maxx. Any other recommendations? Any ballpark ideas on a labor cost to install? Im handy but i'm not going to work with gas lines. The garage is attached and only 3 years old (replaced after a Ford product decided to self ignite destroying the vehicle,garage and contents) thanks in advance

I just got done installing a 45K Mr Heater. Ran flex and black pipe into attached 2 car garage. Had a HVAC buddy come over and take a look, and he said that I would not have gotten a better job done by anyone in the area. He said it likely would have cost me $1,500-2,000 to have it installed. Just running gas line may only cost you a couple hundred in labor, depending on the run length. Hurry up, it's getting cold!!!

Here's what I did, while my furnace guy was doing the annual maintenance on my house furnace I mentioned to him that I wanted to heat my 4 car garage. He hooked me up with an 85K high efficient unit he pulled out of a customers home for $500 installed. Been running for 3 winters in Michigan, keeping me and my toys warm.....

Well, i only got one quote so far from the HVAC place that services my furnace. They will install a new modine hot dawg 45,000 BTU heater for no more than $1400.00 dollars including the heater, thermostat, venting and all gas lines. I know the heater can go for $550.00 so does the total sound resonable?

That sounds very reasonable for a Professional install to code. As well I am sure your insurance company will like it too.

I have a 2 1/2 car garage and I installed a Dayton heater, 90,000btu
Garage is 28' x 32' with a 8' ceiling
The model I have is about 6 years old and works great

Sounds like a decent price to me. I installed a 45K Hot Dawg in my 2-1/2 car and am very happy with the results. I can't imagine how I got by without it. Getting old I guess. Did it all myself, but right now I've got the time.

those two pieces of equipment have a very good reputation IF installed properly.. Making sure the venting requirements are not fudged. If I am not mistaken they require a 1 foot straight pipe before a 90 or a "T"

Thanks for all the replies folks. My Hvac service guy came and looked at my garage then went in the basement to see how he would route the gas line. He said when its all done it would cost no more than 1400.00 and possibly less. Most of the other quotes were higher so i will let him do it. I am handy but that's not a DIY project for my skill level. When it comes to NG, i wont mess with it. I'm no stranger to fires. My house is 30 years old but my attached garage is only 3 years old. I suffered a major fire 3 years ago when my P.O.S ford excursion with the 7.3 decided to self ignite destroying it, my garage, an almost completly restored 1971 ford Bronco as well as all my tools. If i was asleep, i would be gone to. so i will let a Pro install it. Here's a pic of the Carnage. Maybe some of you guy's have seen this pic on a Ford forum.

There was a 450,000 house that the guy installed his boiler in the garage. He built a room around it and raised the boiler 10 inches to keep gas fumes from igniting. But he forgot to read the part where he should not store flammables near the boiler. He stored his cans of paint on a shelf above the boiler to keep them warm. A chipmonk knocked a can off the shelf and the can lid opened- he lost his whole house. Directions are not to be ignored, they are there because somebody else at sometime found out what can happen if they do something stupid.

Contractor just left, install done. What a difference!!! At least i can work in the garage without gloves, wearing shorts and the dogs love it after being out in the yard.

We've got a Sterling brand NG heater installed similarly to the one you have. It is excellent at heating the upper portion of the garage. I put in an industrial ceiling fan, running on a very low speed. Circulates the air and keeps the whole garage warm, rather than the top half hot and the bottom half cold. I can imagine this will save a lot of $ too.

Those walls don't look insulated. Are the walls adjacent to the house? Any thought to finishing the walls? Maybe not because their painted?

dave, the walls are not insulated---YET! The house is 30 years old and the attached garage is 3 years old.My garage was destroyed by a vehicle fire(there is a pic within this thread) After the garage was rebuilt, the contractor painted all the walls with Stuff from Sherwin Williams that prohibits the smell from smoke getting into the new wood. I will be putting up Bats later on, spray foam for the garage is not in my budget.
