Garage Office Floor Recommendations.

I may have to convert the room I use for my garage office/collectibles display back to a bedroom for my elderly MIL.

This leaves me no options other than coming out from the shared kitchen/garage wall about 8' into the garage space, adding a new wall with a door and window (just so I can look out into the remaining garage space) in creating a new office.

The current shared existing kitchen/garage entry door sits up about 5" from the garage floor. I'm ok with leaving the drop down into the new office space, but I would like to insulate the floor of the new office. I was thinking of just using these Home Depot's 2x2' DRICORE panels as a subfloor and top off with a wall to wall indoor/outdoor rug.

What are your thoughts/recommendations?

No response yeah or nay or other recommendations on my initial post.

Maybe I should ask differently...

1) Will these 2X2's be sufficient to insulate and block the cold temps and moisture from entering into the office space? These 2x2 are designed for basement use.

2) Should I just frame out a new floor with 2x4's and top with 3/4" ply and bring the office floor level with kitchen floor and
b) What if any type of moisture barrier and insulation I should use if needed?
c) What about air flow under new flooring to prevent mold.

Thanks for any recommendations.

why the moisture concern? seems like that would be taken care of by caulking the new stud walls.

Those work good but they offer little insulation. If you really want it insulated then you will want to add a couple inches of foam board first then add the dricore or just 3/4 ply on top.

I think if you put the dricore down, then carpet pad and then carpet it would be plenty, I have done that in basements just fine.

Lots of home builder sales offices in my area just put down carpet in the garages and that is fine once the room is heated.

I used Dricore over a slab in a converted 3 season room (Michigan). It made an immediate improvement in warmth and once covered with pad and carpet, was a great solution for 4 years serving as a bedroom. I have recently pulled the carpet & pad and laid down 3/4 ply covered by an engineered wood floor. Super stable, quiet and warm. I did use a decent underlayment between the ply and the flooring.

I think the dricore is a good solution for your situation. Insulation from the rest of the garage will be as important as the floor (unless you have a heated garage).

I also used Dricore in my garage. It holds heat well. It's a good solution for you too.

Thanks for all the responses and recommendations. Looks like the DRICORE will fit the bill for what I want to do.
