Garage opener issue

A couple summer ago, my uncle's garage opener suddenly became non-responsive to all remotes. It was quickly determined that the receiver (external) got fried from a thunderstorm. So I ordered a complete replacement set of remotes and receiver for the Allister brand garage opener. This is the receiver and remotes we ordered:

However, for the past year and a half, the receiver seems to only respond half of times or less. I tried to re-program but with same result. There actually is a small red light on the receiver that will lit when it receive a signal from the remote. I noticed during troubleshooting that sometime when I clicked the remote and the receiver light did blink, it did nothing. I'd have to click one or two more times before the opener would finally activate. I figured maybe the receiver is bad or weak so I ordered another one. Installed a newer one today but with the same result. I'm very frustrated right now as it seems the remotes are working as the receiver will signal that it has received a signal, but doesn't always do something to the opener?? This opener is about 23 years old so it is different from modern openers with all the added safety features.

Can anyone please help give me an idea what I should do next. I don't know if the replacement set is just **** or something. I'm confident there is no internal issue with the opener because the wall mounted pushbutton which is wired in parallel to the receiver has always been responsive. Is there a set of remotes/receiver with much stronger signal? I remember when my grandparents got a new garage opener long, long time ago that I could open it inside their car from over 500 feet away!

Todays remotes and receivers use a longer frequency wave than they did in the past, try keeping the remote button pressed until the door activates - also, remotes today are noted for battery terminal corrosion - shine it up good and try fresh batterys

We ordered a complete new set of receiver AND remotes ... they are all in the same frequency. Don't know if they are the same frequency as the original but I know that the new remotes and new receiver should work together as they all came in a kit. The remotes are brand new, and we even tried installed a fresh battery which made no difference.

It just seems that the receiver is not working right for some reason. As stated earlier, sometime when we click the remote, we could see the red light on the receiver blinking once, indicated that it detected a signal but didn't open or close the opener. We'd have to click a few times before the receiver finally did something to the opener.

As shown in the link, there are two different frequencies available ... 288 and 318 MHz. Does it really make any difference performance-wise between these? (of course, both remotes and receiver must be on the same frequency).

23 years old, Replace with complete new unit. Not worth the trouble trying to repair.

When I see these words, and consider how really inexpensive a complete new opener system is including a warranty, I have to asked the same question. Why would you invest time and money in a 23yr old non-functioning system?

Contrary to some things where newer isn't necessarily better, the new Liftmasters are MUCH better, quieter, safer and more efficient than the ones I had for the past 20 yrs. I'm glad I replaced rather than repaired.
