So my 1/2HP Craftsman unit decided to stop working this morning. When I hit the button I can hear whatever relay inside the unit activate but nothing happens. Also, the two bulbs on the unit don't work either. Do these things have any fuses that are user replaceable? I think there was a quick power surge that may have caused it.

If there was a power surge, try leaving the unit unplugged overnite. I have had many logic boards cleared that way. If it still doesn't work in the morning, get a new logic board. Also, open the unit. Some models do have a fuse in them.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like the logic board more than likely. Although I do hear some kind of relay energizing when I hit the switch. Maybe that's not on the logic board. I'm going to try the unplug method and see what happens.

I had one that would do the same thing. Found a bad solder joint on the logic board, and fixed it. Mine was intermittent so I wiggled things to see what caused it to fail--the bad solder joint took only a few minutes to find.

Don't recall any 16 years old chamberlains with fuses! Pull the cover and look at the board, often you can see where they blew. Costs nothing to try repairing.

Make sure you Unplug First! If it ain't blown it will be. Don't ask how I know that!

I'd make sure you didn't break the spring on the door first. If you have one of those door springs that are inside the tube, you don't know that the spring is broke.

Disconnect opener from door by pulling safety cord. See if door opener cycles. Go from there.

If its not the spring, then time to shop for a new door opener. Circuit board most likely will be close to the price of a new opener.

Please report back.
