This fall i am going to clear some land for a garage that the pad will go down next year, then the build the following year
I have already chosen the area and its higher than the surrounding yard, and will be close enough to the house to use the WIFI and can run underground power to it pretty easily.
This fall i am going to clear the area and prep the sight where the pad will go. Its going to be a 36x24 pad when it is done
I am in the cold part of ontario and want to make sure i do this right so am looking for some advice
My plan is to dig about 8 inches deep in the area, and an extra 2 feet wide on each side, so the hole will be 40x28 and fill it with crushed stone. I figure that way i will have good drainage around the garage when it is complete.
Does this sound like enough fill of stone at 8 inches? The plan is to build the forms next spring and pour early in the year, make relief cuts and let the pad sit for a full year before building. so the stone will have 8 months over winter to compact naturally, then the pad will sit for a year before building the garage.
I know a lot of folks do it all at once but i am going to be building myself and paying cash which is why its being drawn out.
Also one thing that is concerning me is i plan to have a garage with a small 8x24 fully heated area where tools will stay. I am going to put a wood stove in the shop, but when i am gone for a week for work i want to be sure that things like my air tools dont freeze (or the beer fridge!)
Is there any issue that would come up from having part of the garage heated and the other portion as cold as -20 celcius? The tool room will be facing south and have a number of windows.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Edit: Oh and i just got the poles erected for the addition on the wood shed before coming up to work on monday- so my time off is pretty busy i guess
