Garage paint scheme?

Does anyone have an idea for a paint scheme for my garage?

I'm in the final stages of my garage build.
I'm just about done putting up the drywall in my garage.
It's 28 x 40, with a 12 ft ceiling.

What paint scheme did you use in your garage?

I like to use at least an eggshell finish and prefer a semigloss so it can be wiped clean. If you use a flat it will be difficult to clean.

Most of the ones I do have a 3 tone paint. Bottom 4 feet the darker color and the upper area lighter. Then trim the intersection with a bold blue or red. It gives that race car garage feel.

there's my 2 pennies

As far as paint goes, I agree with Floorguy. For colors, I think it depends on a number of factors. Will this be a designer-type garage with matching cabinetry and minimal clutter? Or will it be a place to hang signs, neon, stickers, etc? What is the floor? If race black/white check, that's already pretty busy. And, important to me, but maybe not to others, what gets parked in there? A variety? A slow rotation of daily drivers? My biggest difference of opinion on many of the garage finishes is that the room clashes with the subject(s), i.e., the cars.

So for me, I plan to go with neutral and/or subtle schemes that make the cars the stars, and the room is the complimentary "clothing" (???)

For a satin wipeable paint, from personal experiance the Sherwin Williams Duration brand is great. Even the masking tape doesn't stick well unless you use the cheap painters brand. It's pricey though.

I would consider the safety colors and signs in the overall scheme, Well placed bright safey lines on the floor, and caution signs around certain tools and chemical type storage /gasoline etc . Its not that you really need signs like those found in a workplace but it does make the shop look more pro and reflects on how smart you are every time someone sees it for the first time.I found a web site that gave pictures of differant safety signs and then printed up a few for free from the web site, they look pretty cool in my shop. There are hundreds to pick from.

All good replies. I have yet to build mine but I want an understated floor, like dps says, make the cars the stars. But I also like the idea of safety lines, etc on the floor to make it look more shop looking.
I saw a design with pewter walls, red stripe about 10 in wide and 10 in from ceiling. That looked nice but had checkered floor tile.
When I saw the posts here with photos of garages I could not fine one I did not like. Seems the people who post here have great taste.
I bet yours will look great too.

Here's the scheme I'm doing...based on this car:

edit: I plan on using semi-gloss on all surfaces, and think the light silver color will reflect light nicely.

Basically what others are saying - light colors up high to reflect light, darker base (lower foot or two or three of walls) darker colors to hide dirt. Use a paint (or other surface) that you can clean. Actual color choices are up to you based on preferences, vehicles, cabinets, etc. that you may want to match...

I think that picking wall colors is a waste of time until you decide what you're doing with the floor since you so many fewer choices when it comes to flooring.

I have a dark red floor with tan and brown flakes. Very limiting. Eventually, my walls will be a light tan. Ceiling will be white or off white. Trim and concrete curb will be a darker shade of tan.

Had I been thinking it through, I would have gone with a light or medium gray floor. Would have opened up a lot of other options for the walls.

I'm painting mine right now...Walls are 12 foot...it's going to be white ceiling, white walls 3 feet down, then light gray the rest of the way. Trim color is going to be orange (i think it's the new red, heh-heh) and the way I'm doing it, the orange will be just past the beginning of the gray section, and set off by white above it an below it.

so top to bottom it will be broad white, narrow gray, narrower white, broad orange, narrower white, and the rest gray. If that makes sense. :)

HA, I wish that was my garage and car...it's just my inspiration.

I have a stick built 22x24, that's all. But I'm a German car junkie so it's hard not to like the Martini Racing stripes.
