I am going to paint the ceilng and walls (both drywalled) in my main two car garage this week

The garage is currently painted but it looks pretty old and I bet hasn't been painted in over 15 years

What sheen do you guys suggest? Im thinking egg shell? I don't want anything shiny or glossy at all

Basic white also or?

I went with SCUFF-X paint. I can not say enough about it. Washes clean. Doesn’t mark or scuff. The only time I mess it up I damage the drywall too.

I can’t remember the finish. I can check if you want. I went with a bright white for lighting purpose.

I would do satin over eggshell. Just for the fact that satin will clean up pretty decent.

A good eggshell should be pretty cleanable. I wouldn't do anything more than satin.

I don't like pure white for anything but ceilings and trim. A very light Grey will stay bright but still hide a little

I'm hoping 2 gallons does it

My calculations show at total of 602 square feet

Drywall and old paint seems like it's dry and will soak up alot

I'm only doing one wall (on side has shelving and one wall is all peg board) and the entire ceiling

I have used Behr Marquee from Home Depot. It covers in one coat and is not that expensive. You have to get it mixed in one of their colors to get the one coat guarantee though.

I painted my entire house walls and garage walls flat. No kids here. back in the day, you couldn’t scrub flat paint. The new paints are awesome. If the walls get scuffed up, we clean them with magic erasers. The best part about flat paint is touchups. If I ever need to do touchups, you can’t tell where it was done. The more sheen, the worse it looks while touching up.

I‘ll add a big :+1: to that.
Scuff-X is a Benjamin Moore product and I can’t say enough about its scrub ability. I went with eggshell But I have tested the flat and it’s just about as good as far as scrub ability goes. It’s not cheap, but the performance to me is worth a few extra bucks. It might save you a repaint sometime in the future so if you can avoid that, you’ve saved way more money and time with the premium price.

I don't get the aversion to satin or anything glossy?

I painted flat white on my house ceilings because everyone said it's what you do. Looks good on the new parts with knockdown texture but looked bad everywhere else. On the plaster ceilings I went back with an off white semi-gloss and it looks great!

All my walls are satin. If was doing it again kitchen and bathroom would get semi-gloss

Semi Gloss or Egg Shell.

Semi Gloss will be more reflective and Egg Shell will help disguise any taping and muddling errors.
