I'm running a used Dell Optiplex 780 I got from an industrial liquidation sale for $10.Per usual it needed a hard drive which I scored on e-flay loaded with Windows, chrome, and a bunch of applications for $29. So far its been awesome, my friends roll their eyes with jealousy every time I look up parts or torque specs for whatever is on the lift for the moment, while playing tunes on youtube or I Heart. I dare say the electric recycling bin at the dump may even have some decent, older desk tops simply in need of memory and a hard drive.

I'd use an old desktop pc. I recycle the old office computers for the staff and they use them for home use. Its hard to even give old hardware away so you should be able to get something suitable for free or very cheap.

After christmas last year, I bought a new Acer Chromebook laptop at Best Buy. I think it was under $300 total. Put it on the workbench in my garage and use it all the time to order stuff, research youtube how-to videos, etc. It's just connected via the wifi from the house. I dont' store any files on it. Just mainly use the browser. Deleted all other BS apps that it came loaded with. Suits me just fine.

MiniPC and a VESA mount. Did my fathers like that, all you see is a keyboard/mouse. No media drive, works perfect for netflix, email, youtube, etc.
