Greetings,

I have been working more in the garage lately and thus missing phone calls. Running saws and routers makes a lot of dust and noise so my phone is getting dusted and I miss calls. I was wondering if anyone has a possible solution or recommendation?

In my old house when I had a land line so I had a shop phone. Great loud ringer and never missed a call. But alas I don't have a land line anymore.

Thanks for any help with this.

Tim

Ayuh,.... I made a little pouch outa black leather, 'n strung it 'round my neck with a reused boot lace,....

Dependin' on what I'm doin', I let it hang free, or in tight spots, slip it into/ under my shirt,...

Obviously you have decent internet as you are using computer for GJ.

Then you have all you need for cheap landline . . . . . Magic Jack.
Sold at WalMart and get first 6 mths free with hardware, then around $30 per YEAR to keep the landline going. I use mine as FAX line also as needed, then plug back in for normal landline phone calls with FREE long distance anywhere in USA. Best 3 bucks a month that I spend. ;)

Plug MJ into router, and run RJ11 cord to plug into old landline wiring in house. Now every phone in house (including garage bell ringer) will be on MJ "landline" substitute.

They make devices/phones that bond with cellphones via bluetooth and plug into the phone wiring in your home so your cellphone acts like a landline and will ring any traditional land line phones in your home. Enables you to receive or make calls via your cellphone and most of them will handle several cellphones in addition to a landline if you still have one. I use one of these and works like a charm.

Sounds like he needs a loud ringer, not a way to connect to a land line.

What model cell phone do you have? A lot of them now have the option of blinking the camera flash when you get a call. If you have it anywhere close by it should get your attention (as long as the flash isn't obscured). If the dust is super thick that might not be enough, though.

You can also get a vibration activated loud ringer like this one. They're for people who are hearing impaired or for hard sleepers who need to be awoken for emergency calls.

[EDIT] If you're willing to wear a little bluetooth earpiece, I believe some of them will beep when the phone rings. Then you just tap the button on the earpiece to answer.

Do you have a link for the device that you use?
TIA

.

Right, those Bluetooth capable phones don't have to have a landline to function, just a cell phone connected via Bluetooth..

From the OP comments, his phone's getting dirty in the shop so with this, as soon as he gets in range of the base station his cell connects and he can just leave the cell in a drawer to keep it from getting dirty..

He also said he had a land line phone previously that was really loud; using this Bluetooth phone, the handset rings which should be quite a bit louder than his cell ringer..

I use this. http://www.myxlink.com/xlink_bt.aspx although the device that Beemer533 posted does exactly the same thing, but is integrated with a wireless phone system.

There are a variety of different makers who produce gateways or wireless phones with bluetooth gateways built in. Should be able to buy these or get a look at them at Best Buy or any big box office supply store.

I use my phone to play music in my shop, when there is an incoming call the music shuts off and the ringer sounds over the speakers, every cell phone I've had does this.

That was my though as well. If you don't listen to music, get a cheap raio that has aux in, which most do, hook the phone up to it and crank the volume.

The Renny Ringer seems to be the only currently available Bluetooth (meaning it has a wireless smart phone interface) device that does what the OP asks. It is really new, so expect more in the near future.

Follow the Amazon link a couple of posts above. It looks like it is ~$100 nearly everywhere, but Amazon will ship it for free.

The Renny gadget automatically links to the smart phone anytime the phone is within ~200 feet, and plays music, works on voice commands and will also act as a speaker phone if wanted. You don't even have to have the phone's ringer on!

See it work at:
www.olenstechnology.com/product/renny/

Mine is suspposed to ship later this week.

For anyone not using or considering Bluetooth accessories for their (especially Apple) smartphone, you are really missing the boat. As an example, my new hearing aids automatically link to my iPhone, eliminating the need for a separate headset or earpiece. Great Stuff!

I like that, that is great for folks that already have phones...

The only thing I miss about having a landline was being able to answer the phone wherever there was a handset in the house instead of trying to find your cell as it is ringing upstairs..

Very true, there are a ton of really cool Bluetooth devices out there, like garage door openers, speakers, etc... Although I'm not sure why it would be more applicable to Apple?

Interesting link, it reminds me of this speaker I got for my wife for Christmas http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M7D93Q0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Like others,I normally have my cell plugged into the stereo listening to Internet radio, you hear text and calls.

Also have a landline wall phone,I only pick it up if I feel like telling off the telemarketer calling. That's the only time it rings.
