We had a couple nice days early this week up here in the NE and while I was on vacation this week I opted to roll the floor.

What brand and part number is that paint, chuck? You say you did two coats.....how long did you have to wait to walk on the first coat? I thought I remembered in the past doing sections two coats at a time as I came out of the shop and didn't walk on any of it but it's been awhile.
Are you happy with the product as it went down and if you don't mind what is your square footage and the corresponding price of that paint to cover it.......thanks

The Epoxy is made by Sherwin Williams, it is called armour Seal HS1000. SW has spec sheets on the material, which I do not have with me here, such as drying times, prep work required, reducing formula(first coat only) ETC. IIRC you can apply the second coat after 8 hours assuming 77 degree/ 50% humidity after the first coat is applied. I waited about 16 hours. Foot traffic after 24 hours and fully curred after 7 days. Don't quote me on all this however.

I painted my way through college back in the late 80's/early 90's working with a local painting contractor(not College Pro Painters garbage) and can say that the exopy rolled out just as a oil based paint would. I had no problems with its' application.

I don't have my receipts here with me but I believe it coast about $100/kit which includes 1 gallon of part A and 1 gallon of part B. I purchased 3 kits for my 784 sq.ft. garage and had about 1/2 gallon left over. Keep in mind that I used about a 1/2 gallon of reducer on the first application.

Nice job Chuck!!!!!!!!!!!! How were the fumes??? I've heard that they are pretty strong and require a good respirator.

Curious as to why you reduced the first coat down? Was this based on their recommendation or someone else? I think our garages are about the same sq footage, 33' x 24' so I would think that I would need the same amount of paint, although about 480 sq ft has been painted once before and will be scuffed up prior to recoating.

Did you look into putting their clear coat over the paint? I'm going to be putting down color chips like the U-Coat-It and need to figure out how much to get.

Again, nice job and it looks awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A reducer acts like a paint thinner. It is in the instructions as well as recommended by the employee @ SW to reduce the first coat.

I used my 3M respirator(Home Depot). If I didn't I supect that after the 9-10 hours it took me to do both coats I would have had a headache.

I, too, have heard this from a SW employee. Thinning down the first coat allows the epoxy to better coat the profile created when etching the floor. The epoxy will be less viscous and fill every space much better.

I have not tried this, (yet) but in theory it makes sense.

I just bought a house with a 10 yr old (aprox) garage, with oil stains (naturally  )

I know you can buy an acid from SW to clean the concrete 1st before applying the epoxy...do U know how effective the acid is at helping the epoxy actually stick???

The shop floor at work wasn't cleaned very well and the epoxy is coming up only after 2 yrs.

(But then again, draging 150-200 lb parts around on the floor probably doesn't help LOL )

I'm thinkin' the muraitic acid (etching) is used primarily for just that and not so much cleaning(although it may clean as well). I think there are other cleaners/detergents out there designed for cleaning. I just don't know what they are.

Chuck - Looks GREAT
That is the same epoxy coating I used on my floor back in January 2002 and it has held up great since then. I chose white and it shows all the dirt, but paint wise the only thing that has stained it is rust (had an old flywheel under a tool box), solvents and tires dont attack it at all. Only damage to it was when I weld or cut with a torch, so I have an area for that specifically.

One problem is that it is slick, which is good for clean up but bad since my pool bathroom and fridge is in the shop (dont ask how I know-ouch!)
