Finally getting started on the extension to my existing garage, pole barn construction, aprx 30x56. It is being done in 3 "stages" to make the township happy - stage 1, posts/roof, stage 2 floor stage 3 enclosiing walls. Options are for metal roof or traditional shingle roof. My concern is down the road when the building is enclosed (LP Smart Side) & insulated/drywalled - I am being told that if I use the "bubble-wrap" vapor/insulating barried with vented ridge cap I will not have a condensation issue with the metal roof. The metal roof is appealing due to lower cost, but not if it will be "raining" inside, or all the tools and equipment will have moisture on them.

Thanks in advance guys!

Mike....where are you located? (it helps to have your aprox location in your profile)

In my experience, condensation issues are caused by poor or no vapor barrier between the inside and your insulation....

I would be surprised that a metal roof is worse for condensation than a asphalt single roof.

Hopefully some of the more experienced guys will chime in.

Location noted!

Plan now is to use the foil-backed bubble-wrap insulating vapor barrier on the roof, the walls will be open till spring, I plan on using Tyvek wrap before putting up the Smart Side, interior walls will be insulated/dry walled. Not planning on a ceiling at this time.

Thanks again!
