Hello. I am a new member and thought I would share my project I am doing from the begining. We are on an acre of land and the property came with a two car garage in the back that we have used mostly as storage for the past six years. I finally decided to turn it into something useful and thus began this project. I will provide pictures and details as time permits. I am a husband and father of two teenage boys and work full time as an ultrasound tech so life is pretty full. Here is a picture of the garage as it sets in the middle of the property. You can see two trenches that I have dug for the electrical and natural gas that are going to be run from the house. The next pictures are of the trenches as they run from the house and the tree roots that I had to cut through. Following that is a couple of pictures of the inside as it looks now with all the stuff cleaned out and the wall that used to be up that split the garage in two. I removed the wall and now have put in a main beam to support the rafters which are 2x6s sistered in the middle. I had put in flooring and shelving up top when we first moved in and so I wanted the support underneath. The next image is my side of our attached garage that I have given up for this coming hard winter so that I might save money on a storage unit for all the stuff from the second garage. As you can see I left my wife's side nice and clean so she can have a warm and dry winter while I scrape my windshield - just the kinda guy I am. I tried to organize all my tools and extra wood so that I can have fairly decent access to it as I work through this project. I ordered a Hot Dawg 45 from QC Supply in Nebraska and I am hoping to pull all my wire this w/e through the 2" pvc. The run is about 175' so it should be quite the party. I laid my gas line that Consumers Energy made up for me and the inspector gave me the okay on the open trench inspection. He said I can run cable and telephone in the same trench which I plan to do in some 1" pvc. I think I am going to run some CAT 7 out there also. I hope ya'll find it as interesting as I have found the projects on this site. Will keep you posted when I have the time.

Go for it. I'll be be watching. You think those trenches will never look right, but after a couple years I can't even tell where mine are.
I'll be bet you wish you would have purchased the wire a few years ago. I recently purchased some 10 g to run 220. I hadn't purchased electrical wire for several years and couldn't believe the price of it

Thanks for checking out my project. You have a very well put together place there. Is that T111 on the walls? That's a good idea. I was thinking about doing something like that but only 4' up - maybe I'll take it up all the way. It does look like a cabin in the woods.

4x8 pine siding from menards. $22-23 a sheet. The only thing that I would have done different is attach to the wall with screws the same color as the pine. If I would have countersunk them a bit you would not even notice. That would enable me to pull the panels off if I ever wanted to change wiring or anything else.
just like you are thinking, I put the same thing up in my attached garage, 4' high. It seems I was alway fixing holes in the garage drywall.
