i just fixed up an old laptop for use in the garage, now im adding all my links that are technical related automotive/weld and fab... charts and info that kinda stuff i was hopin you people might have some links i could add...sometimes its nice to be able to looks stuff up when ur stuck on a project...

I'm moving my laptop out to the garage, but my wireless network won't reach it, so I'm burying a network cable, coaxial, and phone cable when I do the power/water/nat.gas. Its sole purpose was to do tuning with my car, it only makes sense to keep it out there.

I actually have two! One laptop in the office and one pc in a Lista computer cabinet for the cnc plasma cutter.

Maybe Im the only one with this concern but for me to have a computer in my garage will just make it even more likely to spend time playin and surfin the web than doing the projects that I am all ready years behind in finishing.

My history goes back to before the orginal IBM PC with all of 64K of memory, and one 256K flopply drive. All this for just $3500, thank you very much!

Are you trying to tell me 8" floppys are obsolete?
I use the shop air on the inside of the pc like the chipset cooler etc. I have filters on all the intake fans so not too much **** gets in. Ive never had a problem with the dvd rom etc. If I do Ill blow it out too lol.

Yup... one of the reasons I put one in mine
I have access to more lines if I add them, since I have a phone system in the house, as well as access to our external cameras from any TV or computer. jhn9840

Is there any other place other then the garage to have a computer? When I upgraded my electrical I ran network, phone, and coax to the garage. I now have a server setup in my basement so I can access all my files and info from any computer in our house (a bit overkill but it works). I particularly use the computer in the garage for music and looking up info on the net.

Yup, my secretary's Xerox "word processing station" back in those days used big 8" floppies. I was also one of the folks who bought the first IBM PC with 64K of memory, two 5-1/4" 160K floppies, and a cassette player to load programs, for only $4,000.00.
My first word processing program (WordStar), only occupied about 60K (yes, 60K, not 60MB). jwh

Yep, had one of the Radio Shack TRS-80s at work back in the pre-almost every else days.
It was fun watching it search for a file, when it found what it was looking for the screen flashed a few times ---- sorta like it was trying to say I FOUND IT! I FOUND IT!
After that had an IBM PC (the original dual floppy no hard disk one) with the removable "Bernoulli" drives - that if I remember correctly held 10 Meg - they were the size of a 8 x 10 picture frame! Anybody else remember them?
And who could forget the monotone amber monitors??? Yes, color was "optional at extra cost" back then also!!!

Well, I've finally gotten access to a garage 'puter for myself. Cool thing is, it's the one I'm typing on right now. About a 6 year old Dell Dimension 8200 with a 17" CRT. It already has all my links on it so.... plus I'll hopefully have AutoCad 2006 on it still.
