We finally were able to find a home that fits what we have been looking for. The garage that is attached to it is a 2 car garage that is 24' x 21'. It has been used just to park the former owners car and store their belongings. I am going to transform it into something that we can call our own. It also has to be very functional as we race U.M.P. Late Models. I plan on posting my progress as I go on here sort of as a journal. If anyone has any opinions or ideas please do not hesitate at all to chime in!!

You've got a really nice blank slate to work with. Was the floor already done when you moved in? If so, that's a real bonus! Once you get started you'll get plenty of ideas and opinions.
Thanks, I'm excited to see what we can transform it into. The floor was already done, it is peeling up in a few spots through and has a couple broken spots in the concrete that I am wanting to fix. I need to get the inside of the house further along though or my wife will kill me, haha!

Looks like a nice start. But please paint the panelling its hurting my eyes!!
Well I decided to take a break from remodeling the house today and work on the garage a little bit today. I finally got the big and bulky closets out to open things up. I also was able to get all of the walls cleaned and primed. Hopefully I can get it all painted this week so I can go on to the next phase.
I also am needing to put some lights in, any suggestions?

Regarding lights...the brighter, the better. If I was you, I would check craigslist for folks getting rid of a bunch of those 4ft long 4 bulb flourescents. They are near $100 at HD new and you can pick them up as cheap as $10-$15 second hand. I have 5-6 in my shop and it is very nice. Probably one of the better investments you can make.

I haven't quite decided on paint yet. I really like the two tone with white up top and red on bottom but i havent completely decided yet. I wasnt sure how hard it would be to tape it off with the grooves in the paneling.
I will definitely have to keep an eye on craigslist, like i told my wife, I want to have to wear sunglasses in the garage.

I wonder if it might be possible to 'fill' in those grooves using caulk and a mudding tool. Then prime over all that and go to town. Might be worth looking into if you want to get away from the panel look. Or, to get a little better fire protection you could always make a ton more work for yourself and sheetrock over the paneling

It is a CFL. It is rated at 45 watts I think. Puts out an equivalent of 300 watts. I used a ceramic base to mount them. I think I payed something like $50 for all of it.
