20160421210231 by christopher jones, on FlickrHello everyone. I've been a long time lurker on this site, seeing many great garage setups here and cool ideas and in the 5 years I've owned my house I've always wanted to get my garage into decent shape. I'm a pretty good mechanic and love wrenching on my own toys and helping a few friends here and there but I never learned much in home repair and modification. When I moved into my home in 2011 my garage was "mostly" drywalled with no seams sealed and no paint or primer put up. Here is a shot of before I started my refresh:

20160221_100640 by christopher jones, on FlickrMy first original plan was to put drywall joint compound and joint tape on a seam to see how it would turn out. It just so happened that right after I started one of my neighbors who's a contractor shows up to hang out and he laughs at my attempts and my tooling. He runs home and shows up with his fancy trowels and blades and whatever and does one seam for me to demonstrate. He loans me his tools and says good luck on my project, hold onto them as long as I needed. Here is where I ended up:

20160221_172055 by christopher jones, on Flickr Here at this phase I added primer where the joint compound was dry and sanded and the unfinished parts are where I was having trouble with the compound cracking so I didn't prime those areas yet. Also you'll notice how the previous owner "mostly" drywalled the garage because in the back right corner you can see the studs because he left that part out.

20160228_030334 by christopher jones, on FlickrAt this stage I put up white paint on the lower half of the garage and then I thought about how frustrated I was with the old cabinets that were hanging on the wall. I liked the idea of having cabinets but the ones that were there had fixed shelves in them that were much too small. I could hardly fit anything in them so they got loaded with whatever **** would fit.
Off came the cabinets to reveal a pleasant surprise:

20160302_232938 by christopher jones, on FlickrI ended up leaving the open spot on the left side as it had a few electrical outlets and it would be covered by the green cabinet.

20160307_225452 by christopher jones, on FlickrI put my wife to work on some of the smaller details.

After many weeks of working on this alone. I needed my wife to be the professional cabinet installer that she was destined to become so that we could get these new cabinets up:
20160310_201850 by christopher jones, on FlickrNow that I was nearing the end I wanted to tackle some of the smaller details like refinishing my workbench. Polyurethane clear gloss from minwax.
20160312_182444 by christopher jones, on FlickrFast forward to today and while not yet complete I'm happy with where this is going. Still a bit of cleaning and reorganizing to do but I feel much more relaxed now that the major stuff is out of the way.
