Re: garage refurb

Today, I put the cover back on the breaker box, as shown above. Then a buddy stopped out for awhile to check out the garage. He hadn't been out since we poured the apron. He thought it looked nice. He also knows where I can get aluminum diamond plate (sheared to size, locally) to put behind the workbench. If I don't do the diamond plate, I might use blue sheet metal, like what is used on enclosed trailers. There's a place near that sells it in 4x8 sheets. I'd use blue to match the stripe on the walls.

What blue stripe ?

This is what I worked on today. I put one coat of navy blue. I'll finish it on Monday with 2 more coats.

Hopefully I can get a few more things done this week, get a decent day and move the car and tool boxes back in.

*disclaimer, in the last pic you can see boxes of what the wife got me for Christmas. :bounce:

"Now I'm looking for an electrical hazard or shock sticker to put on the outside of the box. Any ideas ?"

With a box cover that big, I'd do a Rat Fink getting zapped by a live wire. There'd be plenty of room for lotsa lighting bolts and sparks.

And hurry up and uncover those Cman boxes, already!!! We don't have to wait until Christmas Day, do we???

I do know a guy that airbrush that kind of stuff.

Yeah gotta wait, the wife said so. She was nice enough to get them, (she's a keeper  ), I'll wait for Christmas.

Wow, nice overhaul. I really like to see this sort of thing. Taking an old building, and overhauling it to the point where all of the old "junk" is removed, and newer/modern materials are used in a solid fashion, to basically double (or more) the original lifespan of the building! Nice work!

Re: garage refurb

I did a little painting today. I put 2 coats of paint on the blue stripe and it's done. Well almost, I have a few ends I ned to finish up.

Then I put two coats on the beam. I'll still have to do some trim work but this was rolled on with a 3" roller nap. It was quicker than using a brush.

When I left the garage tonight, it was 70* in the garage and 9* outside, brrrrr.

Re: garage refurb

I didn't get a lot today either. Even though, the garage is warm, I just hate going outside when it's single digits. I'd rather grab a blanket and the remote and flop on the couch. lol I trimmed around the top of the cabinets with some OSB. I had a gap when I removed the cabinets and rehung them. I'll have to add it to the paint list.

Then I boxed in area by one of the garage doors. I've been wanted to do this for a while. I waited till after the new doors were up. Not much but it does look better.

Before.

After.

Not much but it's few things crossed off the list.

Re: garage refurb

Keep the photos coming. I wish I could get an old garage. Not likely here in San Francisco. Everything is astronomically priced here.

Re: garage refurb

I did a few things in the last couple of days.

I wired in a new outlet between the doors. I use this to plug in my, well, never mind, and my box fan to circulate the heat from the wood burner. When I ran it, I had to go up above the new ceiling. Good news,it held my weight. lol

I used romex but ran it in conduit for a neater appearance. I had to make a few bends, so I broke out the torch. I was a little nervous getting the torch that close to the concrete. I could just imagine it spalling up in big chunks, all went fine.

Re: garage refurb

Once I ran the new outlet I decide it was not warming up outside. I've been putting this off for a awhile hoping for a break in the weather.

But the boxes are back, courtesy of the plywood express.
12202010a005.jpg

I'm sure a few people were wondering what the hell I was doing, especialysince it was dark and 17 degrees out.
12202010a006.jpg

I moved my press back in too. After I had the boxes back in, I opened almost all the drawers to one extent or another and put the fan on them. Then I stoked up the woodburner and called it a night.

I tried the best I could not to scratch my box, since I just painted it a few months back.

Re: garage refurb

This morning I made a trip to HD to get some supplies, not to mention a stop at Dunking Donuts for a frosted coffee roll (kick ***) and a milk, brought a coffee home for the wife.

I started framing up the new workbenches.

12202010a011.jpg

Everything is held together temporarily with some screws to I can lag it together. Since it was screwed together, I threw in some insulation and called it a night.

That looks like a nice start to the bench. It shouldn't go anywhere.

Re: garage refurb

I didn't do much today. I screwed some OSB over the insulation. I need to grab another sheet tomorrow to finish one section. 12222010002.jpg

I started screwing it up (literally)when I realized that I needed to tapcon and lag what i already had together. Off came two sections of OSB and in went the tapcons.

After I used up the OSB I had on hand, I painted the post that I changed before pouring the floor. I painted it black like the I beam it's holding up.
12222010004.jpg

I also added a spring clamp to hold my gloves behind the woodburner. They're welding gloves that I use to go out and fetch firewood and throw it in.
12222010001.jpg
I did something similar at the firehouse to hang gloves on the gear lockers. If you hang the gloves by the tip of the middle finger they dry quite nicely. Any water in them will run out as they're drying.

For those that didn't know, your gloves can get soaken wet while fighting fires and freeze in the winter.

If you weren't a hose dragger, this build would have made you one of the coolest dudes ever.

Re: garage refurb

Nice work! It's harder to do a remodel and have it turn out, than to build new.

Re: garage refurb

I figured solego was a LEO of some type after the "hose-dragger" comment. No problem, I'm easy going but wanted to throw some pics up of some sleeping officers. lol.

It's officially Christmas. I can open up the boxes holding the Craftsman lower boxes and get started back on my workbench. The wife bought me two and my parents bought me one too.
