Looks great. You are 100% correct on the oil based Kilz smelling real bad.
It sticks on everything that it drops on. LOL
I painted the well room under out front stairs. While painting overhead I got a big drop in my hair. Did not notice until later that day. It's still there four days later. Just smaller.

I have splatter drops on both my arms right now. When I did the first coat, I got a drop in my eye, it landed on my contact. I was able to get it cleaned off but I put on a pair of safety glasses after that.

They haven't been really using it much since it got cold. However, they have everything moved in, probably not organized yet. I do think it is a sigh of relief, knowing that they have their own storage and not replying on someone else.

Second and final coat of gray. I marked a line n the wall as a reference where the blue stripe will be going.
I picked another qt of gray paint to make sure I have enough for the future. I'll still need to do around the O/H door when nicer weather comes along. I also picked up another quart of primer. Since Menard's doesn't carry Kilz, I bought some Zinsser oil based primer. This is the odorless version, for a $1 more. I figured it was worth a dollar not to get a headache smelling the other stiff.
I went ahead and got the door way primed on the older side of the garage.

Still reading. Page 86, came across the email about the previous owner of this garage. I was wondering all along what it must have been like back in the day as it looks like it was a fantastic service station. You really are bringing new life to the place and we get to watch. I'm not even half way through even and love it. Let you know when I make it to the end.

Time for some stripes. If you got the tools, might as well put them to use. The rotary laser level I bought to build the addition, set up and helping with stripe layout.
Stripes, marked, masked and starting with trying to seal the seams with lower gray. I did the same thing with the upper white color too.

Next up, two coats of navy blue for the stripe. First coat looks like ****, almost painting with Kool-Aid.
Stripe started and completed today.
I ended the day, caulking around the man door. That is all that needs painted. Of course, with the exception around the O/H door which is fair weather work. The last item was painting to metal outlet covers black to make the switches and outlets.

I was asked about the foamboard I used around my foundation, these are current temps as I just took them. I posted this in another section of the site but wanted to put it here for reference.. . . 10°F outside.

just curious does the blue tape take off any of the grey paint when you remove it after painting the blue stripe? looks good from my chair.
also what is the brand of your transit and if you were to recommend a transit would you recommend that one or a different one for shooting elevations for a deck or garage or whatever?

There was only one spot that the paint got pulled off. It was where paint was on top of some caulk in the corner. It may have been the spot where I touched up the caulk and didn't let it cure completely before painting over it.
Plywood is inherently "not" smooth unless you spend bigger bucks on some real nice plywood. Since the price was already up, I didn't want to spend another $20/sheet. I did touch a few spots up where the blue paint bleed around the waves. No bad and fine for a shop wall.
My rotary laser level is by Johnson. I have no need to spend big dollars on my project but wanted something that would still get the job done and easier than a sting line and bubble level. It added cost to the entire project but it's a tool that I have now.

Speaking of gray, the man door way is now painted. This concludes the painting portion of the addition, atleast till the O/H door can be opened in nicer weather.
Last night I bent up the coil stock to cover the attic access panel frame. I put it up this morning. I stopped in the middle of this job to go borrow the neighbors drywall lift for later today.

First sheet of foil faced polyiso going up. These are seconds I bought off CL east of Columbus. They are 3/4" thick, R5 and were $6/sheet. These were shrink wrapped in bundles of 24. I split the bundle
This one was the bottom of the bundle, which shows a little damage and muddy.
Four sheets in and so far every sheet had to be cut or drilled for the lights.

Same four sheets from a different angle.
I tried to just put a 2" hole in the sheet and slide the sheet up/under/over/down across the track. But doing it myself, I didn't want the sheet to bend or break. So I simply cut a notch and slide it over. Then pulled the cut piece back down and taped over it. Doesn't really matter as they are getting covered with white metal siding.
From this angle you can see how the O/H door track fit better. I've taped over the seams to help seal it up. The sheets are held in place with 1 5/8" drywall screws. I pulled the plastic caps off nails and ran the screws through them. The metal will go up and for that. I'll use 2" pole barn screws.

i'm guessing with all the insulation you are putting in the walls and ceiling that you won't have to spend much to heat or cool that space.

Thats exactly what i have on my ceiling, plastic caps will give out after awhile. It's now held up using screws thru 2.5"x2.5" 1/4" plywood. You finding some difficulty pushing up that insulation?

Never fear guys, I have my neighbors drywall lift. It's making the job a breeze, well, atleast easier.
Since I heat with wood and can cut it on my days off and at my parent's woods, I have minimal cost in it.

So I got down to my last two full sheets of polyiso. Doing the math, I didn't have enough so I started using some small pieces to patch in the ceiling. Granted it's going to be covered, so this won't be seen.
Then I realized, I had 3 full sheets left.
So I took those small pieces off and fitted a full piece in their place. Ripped some narrow pieces to fill in the gap along the east wall and called it a done project after taping the seams.

I had to move some snow to get my dump trailer out. Once it was out, I got it moved to the O/H door. Then trying to get a snow covered tarp off the pallet racking and moved it inside. Which it's in the way now.
You can see the uprights to the left, beams on the right. Behind the plastic covered kitchen cabinets are the wire shelves.
First stop yesterday was Menard's with the 3 rebates in hand. I picked up 9 sheets of metal for the ceiling and a box of coffee for the wife. Total out of pocket after scanning the rebates $121.**. Take of the cost of the coffee and I'm right at $100 for my ceiling, not bad in my book.
Then a trip to the door company and picked up the replacement door panel. It'll go in after it warms up. On the way back, I picked up load of fire wood from my parents to keep the heat on in the garage.
After the wife came home, it was supper and back out to the garage where I started to bend up the J-channel for the ceiling. I still need more but I'll finish up that tomorrow and start on the ceiling.

looks like if you saved the measurements for your insulation you can maybe transfer those to the metal and make your cuts?
looks great with just the insulation, but i'm sure the metal will make it look a bit better.

Finally caught up! What a trip, you've gotten so much done over these years, it really is nice to see where you've ended up. With a little one, progress is at a crawl on my garage. All in time.

After I put the insulation up, I considered leaving the insulation but I told myself, the plan was metal, don't skimp on it now.
Thanks. Fortunately, my girls were older when we bought this place but having kids, I understand. It all takes time and you work on it when you can.

I have been keeping up on the ceiling work but did not place comments. It’s been a lot of work over the fall and winter when you had your doubts about having to stop the exterior work. It’s great the weather worked in your favor this year.

Not yet, but the damn thing is in the way along with other stuff.
I did get lucky getting it closed in, but I wanted to get the "new" yard level and seed down for Spring. Didn't happen but I'm fine with it.
Right now, it's snowing again. I got to use the JD with the front loader bucket once last year on the snow. . . basically shits/giggles. This year, I've moved alot of snow. This is the most snow we have had for years that has lasted this long.

J-channel up, and the ceiling will start going up today. After that. I can bring the pallet racking over and start working, actually working on that side. Granted the racking is for that side but I want it painted before I assemble it and get it in place.
I started thinking about air lines on that side as well. That should be fairly easy, two drops and a reel. I think I can "tee" from the east wall of the garage, go through it and "tee" on the other side.
