I welded the first two on and stopped for the day. Being as the driveway is covered in snow, I didn't want to bring the table out of the garage, flip it in the snow and take a chance of it getting wet with the bare steel. I already have a couple places that got salt on it and now rusting

I did realize that if I followed my plan for placement of the tubes, they would interfere with the slide out plasma/torch table. KIMG1182.JPG

The table is coming along nicely Eric.

As for the clear protective lens covers, I find myself replacing them quite frequently, as in as soon as they get much on them at all. If you buy them in bulk (quantities of 25 or 50) you can generally save some money in doing so. The last few times I've gotten them from either Arczone or Zoro. Zoro with a coupon really helps.

I'm not a huge welder, so I don't go through volumes of supplies. I only bought a 5 pack lens covers. They will probably last me awhile, however, I should pay more attention to them and replace sooner.

I've had good luck ordering stuff from Cyberweld. When I bought my Hobart plasma cutter, they had the best price I could find, in stock and shipped quickly.

Worked a 48 and yesterday was spent picking up a new tool.

Nice looking truck! I test drove an F150 after work today. The 400HP 5.0 felt pretty fast. I have a Maverick on order and I'm on the fence about actually buying it.. I really like the price of the Maverick, but I have twice purchased small trucks and regretted not getting a half ton. You tow more than me, so the F350 makes sense.

The F350 makes financial sense when looking at dollars for options and base pricing.

The difference in XLT base price was about $1500, or close to that. (I forget the exact dollar amount, I built several configurations on Ford's website before ordering)

I wanted 3.73 with electronic locking rear axle, a $430 option on the F250. It's standard on the F350. So that brings the price comparison down to a little over $1K.

For the little extra cash, I go from a 10,000 GVWR to a 11,499 GVWR package. Spread that cost over the life of the loan, 72 months, it's a minimal upgrade charge. However, I will pay it off way before those 72 months click by.

You will really like the 7.3 and will soon want one in your Mustang. :) Great looking truck and I see we have the same priorities when it comes to a new truck, tint and bed liner before anything else.

Funny thing about the 7.3, me being a car guy, you would think that would have been one of the first things I did when the truck came in, look under the hood. Nope. I haven't popped the hood and it has about 300 miles on it so far. I knew the simple fact, it was a Ford V8 and a pushrod engine. Sold.

My fire chief has a 7.3 crate motor to put in his 60's Mustang he's currently building. He bought it at the NMRA Bowling Green race from Holley. It was one of 3 crate engines they bought for R&D. NIB.

I dropped it off this morning for the tint. 20% on the driver/pass windows. Back side windows will get 5% over the factory tint and a 20% strip across the windshield. We came back from going out to eat Saturday in my truck. I was wearing black and the Sun was pounding on my side and arms. I forgot how much tint keeps the interior cooler.

Eric,

What’s the plan for a bed liner or did I miss it? Is that possible with the fifth wheel assembly in the middle of the bed?
Spray in bedliner for a fairly local place. They do take truck accessories, hitches, new take off beds and started their own spray liner a couple of years ago. They sprayed the tailgate last year when I had it replaced after backing into a tree.

No 5th wheel assembly in the bed, just Gooseneck prep. All the mounts are under the bed. They will just mask off around that when they spray the liner.

What made you 😡 about the window tint, installing issues?
Your welding table is coming on nicely, will be a handy piece of kit for your future welding projects.

The place that did it used 20% tint but their version of 20% is very noticeable lighter than the guy I had been using.

I went back this morning and talked to the girl who did it, compared samples. She offered to layer the tint to make it darker. No thanks, I'm not going to let them touch my truck again. She also offered to give me the money back. I said no. I've heard and seen too many stories of people taking **** back after using or making claims to get a discount or for free.

I'm not one of those people, I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned. My mistake and will not be using them for tinting again. I'll make arrangements with the guy that I normally use to retint after it gets nicer weather. I'm going to have to peel the tint and scrape off the adhesive when that time comes.

To put it in perspective, the guy I normally use, told me when he did the wife's Jeep that tinting was tearing his hands up .... health condition. I thought it was a nice way of him saying he didn't want to tint windows anymore. I should have asked him to verify.

The place that did the tint, does emergency vehicle work. Our local agencies use them. I told the wife, they were an option to use when my truck came in.

Needless to say, she paid for the tint as a Valentine's Day gift. As soon as we pulled up beside my truck to pick it up yesterday, she even said, that's not dark enough.

So in the end, I will take full responsibility for trying someone new, correcting the **** up and pay for it out of my pocket.

So now you have heard that tint rant, here's how my days go.

The bandsaw that was leaking.... reading online, parts are interchangeable with Grizzly's and get parts there.

KIMG1191.JPG

Well, they're not. The bearings and oil I needed, don't fit as it's a different sized shaft.

Understand why you were/are pissed off & full respect for the way you are dealing with it, not many people would be this principled especially these days.
Thanks, it just seems that things constantly go this way. Since we took over EMS, my sleep pattern has got worse. I'm up at about 0400 every morning, no matter when I go to sleep.

On the bright side, I may have found the bandsaw parts will work. They are made different and it's going to have to come apart/back together slightly different.....or I screw it up and goes in the scrap pile.

I had good experience with using an upholstery steamer when removing the tint off my middle daughter's car a couple of months ago. Didn't have to scrap adhesive off the glass when I was done with the steamer.

Nope....

In the scrap it goes.
KIMG1194.JPG

I took it apart to replace the oil seal, this one doesn't have one and the old bearing was different... however, I thought I could get around it. I tried to remove the gear off the shaft. There's a keyway in the brass gear that will not come out and appears to be driven in after me trying to press it off.

So I looked at the $50 worth of parts I already have, said let's get it done. I ordered a new gear and shaft, $70. It'll be here Monday.

I moved on to replace the bearings for the blade guides. . . Updated bearing. Different sized bearing. ID is smaller and you can't use the original spacer but I think it'll be okay once it's tightened. I try to replace the vertical blade guide bearing. Finally get it out, compare to the new update bearing, It's different from that one too.

I checked the other blade guide bearings, the OD is smaller, They are never going to touch the blade, there's 5/16"-3/8" between them.

That's it, I am done. I called Grizzly, cancelled the order I just placed for the gear and shaft. I then got a return number for the parts I already have. It'll be getting UPS'ed out tomorrow.

I guess I will be looking for a new to me bandsaw. I was beginning to like the little thing but it was time to cut my losses. I'm done with the aggravation.

Bad run man! Hobbies are supposed to be fun and when you take a high level of perfection to them, sometimes they frustrate. Don’t let these things get you down! You usually nail it.

I am making a plywood cart. Tonight I accidentally cut 3 uprights for the one side where I was only supposed to cut 2 and now I’m out of material as I had used CAD to optimize the design to 4 sheets of plywood. I said all the curse words.

Thanks.

However, I'm not a high level of perfection, I just try to do it right. Sometimes, I know, when good enough is good enough.

Wife thinks I should buy a new bandsaw. I told her I don't use it that much but I'm going to look for something decently used. I know more about them now than I did before.

Truck is getting it's bed sprayed right now. I walked to the Love's truck stop, a 3 mile walk one way. Nice walk but I could have done without the light rain.

Ate breakfast at the Hardee's and now surfing the 'net for bandsaws.

Bedliner looks awesome! Couple of questions as I’m thinking of buying. Why didn’t you have Ford spray the liner? Why do you prefer spray in over drop in? My dad and boss both swear by drop in as they think it’s less friction while loading and protects the bed better from impact. Are you planning a tonneau cover? I never know how to spell that damn word! Had to look it up.

Tonneau cover, already on it, I bought it a month and a half ago before the truck arrived. I just took it off for the bed liner spraying.

My Ranger had a drop in plastic liner, fine but it did wear through the paint underneath it.

My '97 F-150 had Rhino-lining in it when I bought it used. I was sold. In the first month of buying the next two trucks, I had Rhino-lining sprayed in them. That installer went out of business.

I tried to give the next two closest dealers my business, apparently they didn't want it when I needed a tailgate sprayed. I went to McGuire's and was happy with the tailgate. They got my business for this truck.

I considered the Ford sprayed in liner from the factory. I didn't want the production held up by any shortages, that was a shortage item at one point. They were also just coming back from strike, I wanted to get my order in, built and delivered before any issues arose or people (or Ford employees) started placing orders.

Price difference was maybe $30

That's okay man. It wasn't horrible and it was the first time for Hardee's in about 7 years. I got myself a nice walk in too. 3 miles each way, relaxing.

Also messaged a guy yesterday about a bandsaw on FB MP on the wife's account. He hasn't responded back.

there are a couple bandsaws coming up soon on bidspotter in the columbus area. "smaller" commercial wellsaws.

and if your not too worried about cutting speed but want a nice straight cut see if there are any power hacksaws in your area too. I love mine, cuts slower but always straight and just plain fun to watch it run.

Eric, that ***** about the bandsaw parts and having to scrap it.

Not sure if you're looking at new or used but I have dealt with Matt @ Precision Mathews for much of my newer metalworking equipment over the past 9 years now and he has treated me well and stands behind his products well after the sale.

This was the horizontal bandsaw I was originally looking at back around 2015 when I upgraded. It is a nicely made Taiwanese bandsaw that can also be used in the vertical position.

However, after contemplating it I really wanted a mitering head horizontal bandsaw instead, so I ended up going with a Birmingham vertical bandsaw and the Baeleigh mitering head BS-210 that I purchased from Matt @ Precision Mathews as he didn't have either of those in his line. He was great to work with even though he had to source them separately and he made me a better deal than I was quoted anywhere else.

If you decide to go that way, let Matt know I referred you and he has been taking care of my referrals quite well from what I'm told.

Best of luck in your search.

I have a Keller Powered Hacksaw that I got from Thomas of the 1930's Service Station thread here, I've restored it and would happily give it to another GJ member.

I'm also a huge fan of spray in bed liners, it does make sliding things in a bit tougher but also helps to keep things from sliding around, it is tough as nails from what I've seen. I really didn't like the slide in plastic liners as NuttsGT said it destroys the paint under it and traps dirt/moisture.

A $50 loading fee and 18% buyer's premium. Ouch, that $300 saw is now $400 right off the rip.

Thanks but I know that will be going going for more than I want to spend.

Thanks Mike.

I need to watch size as well for the space I currently have, 14x28 and with a corner of pallet racking. There's also a new welding table going to reside in here and often times, a JD 2038 TLB.

That's what I really like about the little 4x6 bandsaws. They fit were they need to be stored and are actually the size I need.

Haven't heard back from the guy with the Jet bandsaw yet. Guess he's either sold it or not too worried about selling it.

I did spy 2 more 4x6 saws, one fairly local. Different brands but still the same design as the others.

Adding those angle slides was a really good idea.

Nice work on the table. I can't wait to see how you (and the JD) flip it over.
Pallet forks have paid for themselves on this project alone. If it wasn't for the JD and pallet forks, I'm not sure I would have gotten this far. The top is 400lbs and I bet it's around 550-600lbs total now. Adding the slide out torch table, I know it will easy be over the 600 mark.

I might just have to load it up and take it down the farmer's scale down the road.

I also went back to bidspotter.com like Mike linked. That's a live auction on the 28th, my duty day. That would be almost impossible to try to watch and bid. I'd have to load a bid and hope for the best.

ya. the live bids are a PITA, sometimes you can get stuff for a steal. I usually factor in the buyers fees to my bids and look up what they are worth. the attatched loading fee is new, not wild about it, 50 is a little steep to pick it up with a forklift and throw it on a trailer or truck.

18% buyer's premium is on steep side too. 12-12.5% I'm good with but another 6% on that. Then throw in another 7% sales tax, you're at a quarter of the selling price.

Auctions used to be fun to watch and bid but now, it's like let's see how far we can gouge the bidders.
