I’d feel a lot better with the diamond plate than the plywood!
Yeah, the diamond plate will be going down.

Funny thing is yesterday, I walked over to measure it to double check it was big enough.

My plywood is 37.5"x48".... The aluminum diamond plate measures....

37.5"x48"

How's that for a sign ?

Somewhere in the pages of this thread showing the addition, you might have spotted an issue with the siding. It was on the back inside corner, unseen by the average person driving by.

It was something that happened when the roof angle got out of wack in the rush to close it in before the snow.

I have put it off for about 2 1/2-3 years but knew it would get corrected at some point. I just had to wait for decent weather when I wasn't working.

Today was that day and I sure feel a lot better. I know there's a couple of other little things that need corrected and they are on the list.

The top piece of siding was 2" off in 10'.

Fixed.

It’s amazing what you can get done without being pressed by time, weather, work or darkness coming on.

Good for you.

I have a couple of projects that have been put off since they are easier to do when the above conditions are met.

How many pieces of extra (spare) siding do you have?

Maybe half dozen full pieces.

Congrats on the new truck; she’s a beaut!

I’ve been debating drop in or spray in liner for a few months now. Analysis paralysis here.

Welding table is a kick *** beast!
Thanks and thanks.

I had a drop plastic liner in my Ranger a couple of decades ago. Hands down, I like the spray in liners.

Spent a few hours in the garage yesterday.

Used the plywood for the shelf as a template for the aluminum diamond plate and the plasma cutter to make the cuts.

KIMG1261.JPG

Once it's painted, it'll get screwed into the plywood for more permanent solution. I'll also trim the plywood a tad off the ends.

After that, I thought about holes in the top of the table. Six inches in from the edges and every four inches, it'll get holes.

They are all maked and half of them are center punched. After the chiropractor appointment tomorrow, I just might start making some chips out of the 1/2" plate.

Not sure if it'll show up.

Further inspection, shows Model number 920DV. This is the more appropriate model number I believe.

A shot from the other side.

I do know the motor works when turned on but the blade isn't spinning. It's going to need some clean up and probably a little TLC.
Seeing these photos, I retract my comment in the other thread about having the same saw. Mine looks sort of similar, but there are a bunch of significant differences.

That 920 part number is incorrect. It is 3575 or whatever I mentioned originally.

I also got a PDF file for a manual, photo copy style but better than nothing. I was also told, they have some replacement parts available but very limited.

Nice! I was going ask how you would drill the holes, then you busted out the mag press! I used to have access to one and sorely miss it. Not a tool you use often, but when you need it, there’s no substitute. Diamond plate looks great!

I pulled the trigger on an F150 two weeks ago and had a spray in liner installed, partly encouraged by this thread. The bed is a little dirty in the picture. I live on a dirt road and as much as I try to keep things clean.. they usually aren’t.

What are you using for cutting oil? I have an older version of that same mag drill and although I've only used it a handful of times drilling my welding table would have been near impossible without it at 1" thick.

I think once you start using the bed with the sprayed liner, you will see the appreciation. Great choice in my view.

The mag drill is nice. I used one that belonged to a former neighbor when we built my press. I was like, damn, I have to get me one of these.

After doing a online zoom seminar with Hobart, I was given a $250-300 Amazon gift card. I knew exactly what I was going to spend it on. Basically I exchanged a few hours of my time for a mag drill.

The bit set came from the wife, Christmas before last. We would rather buy each other something we want than just guess at a gift.

Right or wrong, knowing it's going to take a fair amount of oil for the 100+ holes, I'm using the squirt oil can. I think there's 15W40 in it right now.

Are you using an annular bit or a regular twist drill? I have a Milwaukee Mag Base drill, want to drill my welding/fab table like you are, but my table is 2” thick. I’ve been told annular bit is the way to go, just haven’t found one I can use with a Jacobs Chuck.

I'm using an annular cutter. HSS, not carbide. The bought me the set for Christmas. I figured I could start out with these and replace them with carbide as or if I wore them out.

The red squiter is the older one with motor oil, I like it. The black one has the cutting oil, I do not like that can. It's 8oz and too fat of a can. I wear XL gloves so they're not small.

I'm draining the ATF out of another squirter and will be using that one for the cutting oil.

You should like the thread cutting oil more than the motor oil, I use a Rigid branded thread cutting oil thinned down 1:1 with WD-40 to help it flow better from the auto oiler. It worked great but leaked pretty bad around the seals on the shaft so it made a huge mess.

Any way you could change no variables and only let the oil be the only change to time how fast the bit cuts?

The dull part of me is wondering.
I timed a couple of cuts, but only with the thread cutting oil, just for the purpose of seeing how long it took start to finish of doing a complete hole.

It seems to be cutting easier as well.

To be, if it's cutting faster and easier, it's creating less wear on the bit and.... the drill is working easier.

What got my attention was on the first day, the drill had a "hot" smell. I don't know if it was just a new product smell or it was working the drill harder.

Either way, I'm sold on the cutting oil for the mag drill.

Had a crazy bodyman customer back in the 90’s that had a 1/2” steel plate on top of his toolbox. When he was bored he would sand it with his D/A and leftover used sandpaper. That top shined like polished chrome!

I have some 80 & 180 grit discs for the DA I was going to run across it as well. I need to get the wire brush cup out and get some of the rust damage off first.
