Welding table is looking good Eric.

After removing the millscale from mine a couple of years ago I now use some 60-grit on the DA every once in a while to "touch up" the surface. Seems like every time I go over it with the DA it looks better and better.

Thanks Mike. I'm going out shortly to hit it with the wire brush cup then the DA sander.

It's been hit with the wire brush and I got out the DA. I thought I had 80 & 180. I was wrong, just 180 and 320.

I think we'll stop here for now and try to get the frame cleaned up after lunch. Then prime it and dry while I am at work tomorrow.

EDIT: All primed and drying.

Please don’t disrupt your Easter preparations! We are busy with that too. Your explanation describes itself. I thought you had something more complicated going on.

Fantastic video! Table looks really well thought out. You are younger than I thought you would be. How close are you to the Timken Steel plant in Bucyrus? I toured that plant a few years ago and watching them make vacuum arc remelt steel was ******** amazing. I work for one of the companies that Timken owns.

Technically, the Timken plant is outside of the city limits, but abutts directly up to it. It's always been a matter of contention because of that.... We run automatic mutual aid for fire but not EMS. They receive some city services but pay no taxes to the city.

Regardless, it's right here close. We're about 5 miles from town and 7.5 miles to the fire station for me.

We did some confined space training there last year in one of their boilers while it was shut down.

Out of curiosity, which company do you work for? I work for Timken (bearing) in North Canton. I've been out to the Bucyrus bearing plant a couple times and have no desire to go back.

We used to have the opposite situation with where Timken used to own a whole section of downtown Canton. They had to pay all the taxes, but they had their own fire and EMS crew to service all the bearing and steel plants that were there.

Very nice welding table NuttsGT, I’m sure you will get loads of use & pleasure out of it. Being able to properly set up/secure welding jobs & all needed tools in close proximity will make it more enjoyable doing your welding projects. I’m a little jealous if I’m honest of your setup/workshop but having followed your thread for a while I know how much hard work has gone into making it that way so happy for you.

Thank you for the compliment.

It's been a work in progress going on 24 years this June. . . . like eating an elephant, but when time and funds allow.

Threads should be 2-1/2 times the diameter of the bolt. The very bottom one is a tap bolt or full thread depending on the total length.
They are from the bulk Grade 5 at TSC.

I picked up a 3/4 tap and die today. I used the die to cut some more threads in the bolt. Not pretty but it should be enough.KIMG1328.JPG

So I picked up a Plano case to put the new 3/4" tap and die in. Basically start a larger tap & die box.

KIMG1330.JPG

I went and grabbed the 5/8" tap and die out of the other box to put it in this new box.

That's when I realized that I must be either blind or just F'n dumb.

KIMG1331.JPG

I already had a 3/4" pair. Not a 5/8" set . . . . what an idiot.

< snip >

Then I brushed everything down with some diesel to try to break up grime overnight. I was out of mineral spirits.

I've been out of mineral spirits for YEARS. Banned in CA in 2015. KEK was banned in 2011.

Acetone or paint thinner are my options now. I miss mineral spirits.... :(

I have to admit, last time I bought some, it had went up in price. I remember when it was like $3-4 a gallon.

Fortunately, I have the jug of Toluene that I bought clearance for cheap. I probably should swing back by the hardware store and see if they have any left.

Edit: Second thought, I will stop tomorrow morning. I can grab some cutting oil for the bandsaw too.

Life and circumstances happening again preventing garage time.

Spent last Wednesday evening dealing with post storm damage at work from the F1 tornado that came through town.

Thursday was spent cleaning up at the daughter's house which got hit, not bad but could have been a helluva lot worse.

The city hauled out the root ball from the tree out front of her house. I took a load of dirt in and started to fill the left over hole.KIMG1358.JPG
