Just looking for some basic advice, I've got 20x18 2-car garage, works fine for my daily drivers, but looking to get back into projects and really want a lift. My problem is 10ft (actually 9' 9") ceilings. I've been looking at a few different options, but honestly I don't even know if some of these really are options. I know I should contact a contractor, but I'm still a couple years out from doing anything, so no reason to waste their time IMO.
Here is what I've thought of so far.
1) Raise ceiling in current garage, install lift in center (turn it into a 1-car garage), and then build a carport for other cars. Rough cost estimate?
2) Extend garage out another 30ft or so, I've got a good 50ft of driveway pavement, although it's on a slight slope. Rough estimate on cost for something like this?
3) Buy a dedicated garage condo 20 minutes away for about $160k + build the inside. Or spend $300k buying some land near my house plus building a garage condo/guest house.
4) Move. Rebuild. (Wife is not a fan of this, and honestly neither am I).
I think I can get away with a 12ft ceiling since I only plan to work on VERY low cars, such GT40/Lola T70 replicas, other sports cars, classic roadsters, etc. But I'm not even sure if I could raise the ceiling that high because I've only got ~43" of space from the current drywall ceiling to the very top of the attic above. That's only in the very center too, it slopes down quickly.
I could go on typing forever, but I don't want to turn this into a story, just hoping for some fresh ideas or new perspectives. Are some of these ideas even feasible? I don't know much about construction other than basic stuff like drywall and small DIY projects. Here are some pictures for reference.
I'd appreciate any advice on which direction to go. Remember, the goal is simply to have space to install a functional lift to work on low-height sports cars. Thanks!
