Reminds me of something my great grandfather would have done. Takes a man with a lot of knowledge and a lot of talent. Amazing work.

Just a note about floor finish. I used a mixture of 33% boiled linseed oil 33% mineral spirits 33%spar varnish for first 2 coats . Then gradually increased the amount of varnish and reduced the linseed and mineral spirits. I did not want a polyurethane/plastic coated wood floor. I really wanted the floor to turn more amber over time like the old wood floors you see in old buildings. Poly floors stay clear.

Greetings from a Troll in Grand Rapids (sorry non-Michiganders, it's an inside joke).

Beautiful work and photography.

Thanks for sharing.

Can you tell us what light fixtures you have? Seems like ordinary porcelain singl bulb receptacles but what bulbs are those?

EDIT: Sorry, went back and looked at the pictures more closely. I can see the light fixtures are NOT porcelain. What are they? Looks like you cut off the rafter tails flush with the studs and sistered on the details ends, is that right?

I really like the shingles above the door openings. I may have to steal that idea for my old 18x18 garage. It definitely needs a face lift.

Light fixtures are cheapo lights from eBay, they have vintage look and have led bulbs in them. Rather tails are screwed to a board and then board screwed to side of garage, was super easy to do after contemplating different ways to make them more structurally sound. They only have to support 12" of overhang so should be good. The old cedar shakes are over 100 years old, hand split and some over an inch thick! They are a work of art to look at. I smile every time I pause to look at them.
